Seroquel & Effexor...whats your opinion on them?

Hi, I was just started on the two meds. The Seroquel is just to be taken at 25mg when needed & to help me sleep, until the Effexor kicks in. I was just wondering if anyone else has tried these meds and how they worked for them. thanks

Hi There sweetnshy,

I haven't been on seroquel before but I did try effexor last year. It made me a bit dizzy and nauseous at first but that wore off after two weeks. Of course meds all effect us in different ways so I can't tell you for sure, but it didn't make me more anxious or anything like that. I just didn't attempt to do anything requiring much co-ordination for a few weeks!! Best of luck, let us know how you go.

Good Morning S & S,

My sister is in ICU and their drug of choice at the U of MN Hospital for anxiety for patients in ICU is Seroquel.  It is working for my sister so I hope it works for you too.

I have no experience with Effexor.
I wish you the best with your new meds. Keep posting and let us know how it goes for you.

I tried seroquel for sleep, it will definitely make you sleep.  I had a hangover w/it but I have had that with all sleep meds.  I had no other adverse rxns.  Hope you are feeling better!

 What do you mean exactley by hangover? Because I took 50mg last night, and then I didnt wanna wake up this morning. I felt really sleeping and all whoa for about an hour and then after that I was fine. I wasnt sick or anything, just kinda dazed & confused lol.

I don't tolerate Seroquel well.  They started me on that when I was in the hospital with severe anxiety but decided it was making things worse, I was pretty much out of it.  I don't really think it was the Seroquel, but that once they finally listened and hospitalized me, I just shut down because I was in so much pain with the anxiety.  I now take Lexapro for depression, Lamictal as a mood stabilizer, Deplin to help both work better, and Zyprexa as needed for anxiety.  Boy, the Zyprexa really knocked the anxiety out after many other drugs had been tried.  I only have to take about one 5 mg a week of Zyprexa now. 

I took Effexor for about a month - it made me very hungry.

Dear sweetiowachick,

I was on Seroquel for a while to sleep at night because of OCD.
My counselor actually put me on it to get deep sleep and keep away the constant nightmares i had.
I started in the first few days with 50 mg and boy it knocked me out! For the first 3-4 days on that dose i used to be groggy, and sleepy all day. Sometimes i would fall asleep on the bench in the mall!

I went back and told my counselor about its effect and he suggested to reduce the dose to 25 mg.
The lower dose worked wonders for me and after two weeks when i regained my sleep i reduced it slowly and now i sleep really well without any sleeping aid.
My counselor told me that this medicine is very potent and that it is used off label at very low dose such as 50 or 25 mg as a sleeping pill.
I hope it works for you. It should be easy to ween yourself off it once you are ready.

I mean it made me sleepy the next day, same as you. Dazed and confused. I hate that feeling so I did not take it further.

Lexapro has worked well for me otherwise but I have heard that Effexor works well for others.

I was on Effexor for 4 months and the only thing it did for me is give me night sweats (to the point i had to shower several times a night), had no sex drive and dreamed of killing people or being killed. My boyfriend is also on the drug and the more his Doctor ups the dose, the more aggitated he gets. He has become very angry and quick tempered. Anyone I have ever talked to has not had a good experience. Id try to stay away from it if I were you

Welcome to HealingWell and you may want to do an intro in the New Peeps Thread so we all get a chance to meet you.

It seems to me that your b/f should contact his physician if he is not doing well on the med.  there are many other medications and options to choose from when dealing with A & P.

I look forward to getttingt to know you better.
