I was on the waiting list for an online clinical trial of patients with A/P & Agoraphobia. there were limited positions in the study, run by a well known and respected hospital in the city. the idea was to take part in 10weeks of online CBT as well as other things. there were several rounds to go through before you could be accepted. i made it to the phone interview stage, which was the last step. the interviewer (pyschiatrist) called me and said i was a good candidate, then asked me what meds i was on. as soon as i mentioned Xanax, he said i was disqualified from the program due to Xanax's dependency issues.
he was very friendly and kind, i was just so bummed cos i felt that although ive lived with this since i was 10, im still none the wiser about what caused it, other than genetics. i was hoping to educate myself more about A/P as it has dominated my life for so long and monopolised my time and none of my pyschiatrists have ever been genuinely helpful. they are good at doling out meds, and then they ask me if i was abused as a child. no, i wasnt. i had a happy childhood. ive spent so long researching and reading/studying A/P, as i want to know as much about my condition as possible and be educated and informed.
i know Xanax can be dangerous, but it works for me and has done for several years. i was really disheartened by this.
