Hello all,

I am 18 and have had persisent panic disorder, depression, and I have overcome a life-threatening phobia of choking which hospitalized me for many months. I am finally sort of over it after 3-4 years and now just have to deal with it every day. I have always been scared of developing schizophrenia even though it's not prevelant at all in my family. Recently I have just been having horrible panic thinking I'm going crazy or I'll try and make myself hear voices or see things but I don't but my mind is trying to play tricks on me because I am soooooo scared of losing it. I understand what you all are going through! I just don't know how to deal with it, I've just been telling myself I'm not crazy I just am a horribly anxious person.

I am scared of having schizo too... I am not always worried about it but it does pop in my mind sometimes. I do always try to make myself hear something sometimes just to see if I have schizo. It's weird I thought I was the only person who felt this way. I hope it's normal for anxious people.
Anyways, welcome :) I hope you find all the support you need here.

I am assuming you are on some type medication??? If not, you might want to see your family doc or therapist. Taking medication is not a weakness, it helps to get the levels in your brain leveled out and help you not to be so anxious. Good luck.

Welcome to HealingWell, I am glad you found us.  If you are having these thoughts and they are stopping you from living your life the way you want to, please see your physician and get a good check up.

You are not going crazy...........none of us are crazy, we have mental health disorders/diseases.  You are safe with us so keep on posting.

That must be scary and annoying for you to always be fearful of mental illnesses. I agree with the others. You need to see a therapist and get some relief! I'm sure it's normal, but it's always good to talk to someone in the medical profession and be reassured. Good luck! Let us know what you find out!

I go to a psychiatrist and I have been on every medicine from celexa to zoloft. Klonipin is the only thing that works for me to help with my anxiety.

Have you ever been in therapy?  Group therapy works well for some people too.

You will see many here do well just coming online and learning from other members what helps them.

Don't give up.

Nice to meet you. I hope you do see you doc and therapist and be honest with your feelings. I agree with Kitt also that you are not going crazy and you are only making yourself anxious by worrying.

Yes I was in therapy before but I stopped because I figured all I needed was the medication, but I think I do need to talk about my problems otherwise I wouldn't be on here lol

Support groups are a place for people to give and receive both emotional and practical support as well as to exchange information. People with health conditions, as well as their friends and families find support groups to be a valuable resource and get confirmation that their feelings are "normal", educate others, or just let off steam. IMHO joining a support group is joining a family and depending on just one person in the family is not always healthy and may defeat the purpose of being a member of a group.

I would hope you  stay with us, and make use of the whole group. We do know where your coming from and what your going through.

I also feel a professional therapist is a great idea for you too.

hi cookies, i totallyknow how you feel as had the same intense fear recently and it was the worst experience of my life so far!! I have curbed it mainly now and am able to reassure myseld more that it is anxiety and not madness even though it feels like i am literally mad at the time!!
CBT is really helping and diazepam for when anxiety got bad, although i had got through my worst before first taking it as i was sooo scared that that mite make me mad too!!! Doh! Anxiety can be so powerfull that at times it is very hard to believe that anxiety is all it is.....how can it be so bad and they say its JUST anxiety? Well truth is it is! It is our minds and thoughts that can then create the snowball effect which increases the anxiety. Anxiety tries to win but we can beat it x

Jazzy- I agree with you! anxiety is so debilitating and hard to live with but it just makes us that much stronger

cookies...this anxiety business can be really scary..but rest assured anxiety does not morph into schizophrenia..actually from personal experience I think people with anxiety disorder are too aware of their environment instead of hallucinating! Wonderful suggestions for you from a lot of caring people here. Let me add mine..neurofeedback. This therapy while it can be costly is priceless in what it can do for people dealing with severe anxiety like you are. I know. There was a time not long ago when I suffered from a debilitating anxiety attack even though I have been using neurofeedback for some time. I have stepped up frequency of visits and now am calmer than I have been in a very long time despite some personal circumstances that would provoke anxiety even in 'normal' people. There is hope ..know that this will pass too. Let me know what other guidance and or encouragement I can provide.
