Started my medications today ...

I took it around 10 AM and it is 12.45... I feel a bit nauseated... Otherwise I'm ok...

You'll be okay. . . Just start reading or watching tv. . . maybe a few hours of cleaning and try not to focus on it :) You will be okay :)

Sometimes it can take up to 6wks to feel the full affect of the med- im not saying this to scare you, im telling you to prepare you- it may be a bumpy ride for awhile, but it WILL get better, so hang in there and do your best and keep us posted.

p.s i think the nausea is from anxiety, not from the med itself- it usually takes longer than that to feel side effects- thats just my own experience and i have been on AD's since i was 14. i know it can be awful initially, but it will help you get your life back! :-)

I'm kinda freaking out...! :( I feel nauseated... I just made a doctors appointment just to talk to a professional it makes me feel better...

Breathe Shia!!!! I agree with Maz I think the nausea is from anxiety about the medication nothing serious. This medication is not going to hurt you, try to kick the stinkin thinkin to the curb, you will be okay.

Hey guys... I went to the doctor, was told everything was fine.
I just have dry mouth and weird chills I dono if it's normal... I'm also nauseated. I hate this feeling... I just kinda regret taking it

I hope you start feeling better now that the doc said your fine :) I think you are feeling axiety more than anything. It sounds like how I feel after a panic attack.

I don't know im extremely depressed. I feel like I'm having chills on my arms and chest and back... And nauseated I have no appetite and it scares me....

Side effects are perfectly normal...the important thing is that you are doing something constructive about your anxiety

Shia, you WILL most likely experience some really unpleasant side effects- but you have to look at the bigger picture- hang in there for a few weeks while you feel rotten and then benfit from the meds? or chuck in the towel before you even give yourself a fighting chance? its never easy to adapt to a new med, but if your doctor believes you need these meds, then you are going to have to accept that the transition will be a bumpy road that will pay off in the end.

you have to put things in perspective and look at the future- what you are doing now will assist in your healing process. dont give up and dont give in. keep us posted.

Hey Maz, thanks for the advice. I feel okay now they chills are going away. But it was the first pill I wonder if it can give me such a reaction and feelings of chills and being nauseated. I feel like my jaw is tight and that's what's making my nauseated. I will take it again tomorrow... :) I feel much better :)

Shia,

You can feel the side effects on the first pill but as Maz said, getting onto the meds is sometimes rough, just do not over think it.  If you feel some of the normal side effects that go with this medicine don't panic. 

They really do take 4-6 weeks for the full effect of the med to be at a therapeutic level and if you are feeling your are in medical danger, please call your physician.

I think anxiety/panic is what is making you sick, not the medication. I think you have gotten yourself a bit worked up about taking this medication. Take a deep breathe and know that this med is going to help you gain control over the anxiety. Good luck!

Ugh... I think I'll stop it... I've only taken one. Either it was the medication that was making me get chills and nauseated or myself but I had never felt that way. I thought lexapro had the least side effects... I'm so depressed now I feel like a failure.

Shia,

Don't take a pill once and think that you "know" what is causing your problems please. Most all meds take several weeks to get into your system and take effect. You need to either go see you Pdoc or I highly recommend a second opinion.

And don't feel like a "failure" because of the meds. Feeling like this helps cause the anxious feelings. Please try some CBT "therapy" out. If you have read around or look in our A/P resources you will find the link to MoodGYM :) It has and is helping many of us on here :)

You might participate in the Daily Roll Call too and answer questions from other members that are having problems. It might help take your mind off of your Health Anxiety (check out that thread too:)

You have to work with these meds and know that it is tough to get on them, but sweetie, do you want to live in full blown anxiety all the time.  If you don't then you have to make the moves to get better.

Everyone here is rooting for you so you get up and make a touch down.  Your the captain of your team.

One way to change thought patterns is by limiting time spent thinking. Find a hobby or a distraction that you enjoy, preferably one that has a high degree of mental concentration. Painting and drawing are good examples. With both these activities, your mind is on the task at hand so you have very little time to picture or think about what causes you stress. The main point is to find something you enjoy that can be done for a long period of time.

Shia, it's worth taking the meds. I went through the same thing with Prozac. I called my friend with new side effects and she'd tell me that it was the Prozac. My friend had begun taking it, too. I felt better knowing it was just the side effects. This can continue for a few weeks. Or, you may feel great and not have any issues. Can you take something else just for a few weeks to get ya through the side effects? Like Ativan, Klonopin, Xanax?

Hey guys
Thanks for the support, I am planning on to stop it and talk to my primary physician about the side effects I had. Maybe I can start something else or take it again but being with my mom while I do it. I am still proud of myself for taking it and not ending up in the ER or having extreme panic. I just had depression which is also bad. I normally do not have any reactions to medication or side effects. I do think it was in my mind, but I am not ready to take it again. I rather start after New Years or something like that.

Im sorry you feel that way- the time you take waiting to start again, is time that could have been helping your recovery. it was prescribed for you by someone who knows what they are doing.

im not here to twist your arm and guilt you into taking it, but you never gave yourself a fighting chance. and when the new year comes and you start taking it again, the same side effects will still be there, no matter what AD your doc prescribes. that is something only YOU can overcome, but also know that we here support you and as you may have noticed, have been with you every step since you put that first pill in your mouth.

im just sorry that your anxiety has robbed you of an excellent opportunity to start feeling 'normal' again.

so do i- one pill wont make you feel that horrendous. your anxiety is what made you feel so poorly. but- at least you can recognise that it was your mind that played tricks on you.

Shia please let me know how ya do on the lexapro. I took it one time and went to the ER had many side effects on first dose. But I lived and everything i felt was mostly anxiety, I am afraid to try it again, afraid of all the meds really. keep us updated. I am not on any meds now but omg I really need something to help me real soon. Nausea was my major side effect,with Lexapro and if I stuck it out I would feel better today. But I didn't. Remember us who suffer with anxiety make our illness or a drug side effect much worse.  be strong.holly

Hollygirl my first try on lexapro got me to the ER cause of major anxiety
My second which was yesterday got me chills and nausea...
I hate medication period! Especially mood stabilizers I know I need it to control my anxiety but I hate it. Taking them makes me more depressed.

Maz, thanks for the encouragement. However, I think I'd feel safer seeing my physician first and talking to her about all these symptoms

Shia I do understand!!!!! I hate meds also. Go see your Doc see what they say. I am looking for help also, but in other ways, CBT, yoga, exercise. I just got to get moving , I'm afraid of new things like CBT. I wish you the best. Let me know how you make out with things. I feel your pain.
