How long before antidepressants start working on anxiety?

Hey everyone,

I was prescribed 20 mg Citalopram by my doc last week and have been weaning myself onto them, have now been taking a full dose for 2 days now.  I know everyone is different but I was just wondering about other people's perceptions of how long it takes to see changes.

For the full effect 4-6 weeks but each person is different. Let us know how it is going.

I don't personally know about this one, but I thought I would wish you the best of luck Karen. I hope you found something with your doc that helps you out :)

in my personal experience, 6 weeks. its worth the wait and the side effects to get the relief in the end.

Hi all,

Thanks for your replies. Thought it might be about the 6 week mark, I shall be patient to get the results at the end, trying to ignore the side effects!

I don't think it took my Prozac that long to kick in but that's about the amount of time pharmacists and docs will tell you. Stick with it! Each day will get easier as your meds build up in your system. Be proud of yourself for giving this a shot! It's not easy!

It was also about 2 weeks before I noticed any effect from it. For those two weeks my doctor gave me xanax to get me through. After 3 weeks he upped my dose, and it's been another 2 weeks since then. I'm doing much better on the higher dose now. It's been about a month.

Thanks everyone, I'll be more patient and wait it out!! So want to be able to manage my anxiety better!!
