Lexapro-worth the risk?

My neurogolist put me on lexapro starting today due to my anxiety. I've been going through some issues at home, personal, work, etc. that it got to the point where I was having rages/anger issues. I am also seeing a therapist

Anyway, ever since I started the Lexapro, I've had the same joint pain that I experience when I am in a ulcerative colitis flare up. I feel fine uc wise but just starting experiencing joint pain today! I haven't had this problem in months! I go for my Remicade treatments regularly.

I am also on Klonopin because the doctor wanted to prevent me from going through withdrawal effects from Fioricet, a drug I was on for YEARS. Anyway, could it be that lexapro doesn't agree with me? I just don't feel "right" physically. When I first took it in the morning, i felt like I was in a fog. I had such a hard time teaching for the first half of the day but felt better as the day went on but the joint pain is still there. Has anyone had this problem?

Any suggestions? I already called the doctor's office and spoke to one of the nurses. She said she will speak to the doctor either tonight or tomorrow. As much as I want my anxiety to be under control, I cannot live with constant joint pain. Its too unbearable. Been there, done that.

I don't have any experience with lexapro; sorry. Just hoping you get some useful answers soon from your doctor.

Heather, I just happened to run across your post. I take Lexapro and Xanax for anxiety and depression. Lexapro doesn't cause joint pain or any other side effects for me, but I know that every one of us is different. Both meds really help me.

I just wanted to share that with you, I hope it helps.

lexapro did cause joint pain for me, and headaches in the back of my head , i am taking generic zoloft now, no more joint pain or headaches, i also felt anxious all the time on lexapro, i am doing really well now so far.

There is always that possiblity that the Lexapro may be the culprit or perhaps the discountation of the Fioricet is what is causing the joint pain.

I will be anxious to hear what your physician has to say. He may try you on Cymbalta as it has some pain coverage in it.

Hi heather...this is just my experience with lexapro and it doesn't mean it the same for everyone.  It helped with my depression but very little for the anxiety.  It also made my RLS worse.  I am a writer and haven't been able to write a word since on it a year ago because it is designed to dull the senses and emotions...THAT is does!  My biggest problem with it is that it is taking me forever to get off it.  The withdrawl symptoms, for me, have been disturbing.  But there are those who say the drug has been a life saver and you might be one of those people.

I'm on lexapro but thinking about switching back to zoloft.  It doesn't seem to help me much with my anxiety but like others have said, everyone is different.  Lots of people really like it.  Good luck!

Yeah I've heard great things from other people about being on Lexapro and I've decided that I rather stay on Klonopin for now and then work with my therapist. Her main goal is have me be in touch with my emotions, identify them, and accept them. Its really hard to do, but I am trying. :)
