Today i am going to my hairdresser to get a hair cut . But knowing i am having to leave has already made me nervous and sick at stomach and jittery . I am on meds for my attacks but cant take them if i have to drive and i have to drive . Is ther anything i can do to help me get thru this today ....

Omg, I have had the same problem. I haven't been able to get a haircut for more than 6 months! May I ask what it is exactly that you feel anxious about? Is it about getting a haircut or just leaving the house? For me, it's both. I just can't sit in that salon for hours and not move...if you know what I mean. Can you take a taxi or bus to get to the hairdresser? That's the only way I can get to the salon. I too have to take my meds before leaving the house. Also, if it's just a haircut, you can tell your hairdresser you are in a hurry (like you have an appointment right after it) so they can cut your hair real fast. That would be a good idea...otherwise, some hairdressers take too much time! Again, if you are worried about driving after taking meds, use a taxi! Good luck!!

i just get real nervous and sick ... I sometime get to the point where my nerves are so raddle that i just feel like i could faint . I am gonna take a half valium so i can drive and see if that helps ... Thank you so much for replying .... I love this site cause i know there is people out there going thru the same thing i am .

You can do it! I don't like the anticipatory anxiety, but I feel much better when I am able to get a new haircut and it looks good on me lol. So it's definitely worth trying! :) And don't forget to do some relaxation/breathing exercises before you leave the house.

Hi Jenny. You will probably be back home by now!. I find that if I am in a situation which causes me this stress it is good to go with someone you know and trust, they can drive for you and be a comfort while you are out the house. When you look at the situation in Black and White your stress is because you are going out of a secure area "Your Home" and into an area where nobody knows you this inturn makes you feel open to the elements. If you do have to go on your own then I would each step of the way re asure yourself. Plan each move in your head before you do it. IE: OK Find the car keys. Lock the house up. Get into the car. But in your mind calm yourself about each action, make a meal of it if you like. OK OK got the house keys in my hand fine no probs so far take a deep breath, OK now lets go outside and close up the house, do it slowly and take a long slow look around you as you are doing it then pat yourself on the back once you have locked up the house and take a minute to compose yourself and look around you again do all these things bit by bit and each small step once completed will feel more like you have made a goal and completed it. Yay i made it . I had a few moments to where my nerves were over powering me but i just rode it out ... I ask my mother to come with me so i treated her to a haircut as well . Anytime i got nerve i would look at her and she would talk about something that made me laugh or i had alot to say on . And btw ... got a nice style and look hot lol ... Thank you all so much for responding . It is so rough to have your biggest decision of the day is to walk out the door . I will take control back of my life one day it will just be baby steps ...

I'm so jealous now. It's my turn now to go to the hairdresser...sometime this week!! Eeeeeek! LOL
