I do not do well if I don't get a decent night's sleep. Since my anxiety disorder reappeared I cannot sleep more than a few minutes at a time.l I have tried every idea I have ever heard of. Any unusual ideas out there on how to get some sleep? I am increasing my Buspar as the Dr. recommended but I am only on day 4 and I know it takes 3-4 weeks.

Aww lakelover, I am sorry you are having such a hard time sleeping. I too get even more anxious if I don't sleep. Have you asked your doctor about maybe getting a sleeping pill to try for a bit until your meds kick in? Have you tried Melatonin, you can get it at a health food store. Good luck!

I agree with Nanners. A sleeping pill may work. It won't become a habit if it's for a short period. Can you talk to your doc about this? I hope you can get some sleep!

this is what worked for me for sleep - antidepresent and klonopin. ambien gave me a headache. but it worked, I just took an aspirin and I was ok.may work fine for you tho - no headache. I no longer take the antidepresent. just the klonopin as needed - sometimes for sleep .I try to walk off the stress or stay really really busy during the day so that I will be tired. relaxation tapes helped. no more cafffinated coffee for me or tea or some times and this is a hard one - certain chocolates. or caffinated soft drinks in my case after 12p.m. or I will feel the efects at bedtime. If I am stressed at all. I dont have any of the above as it sure dosnt help. you will feel better soon you just have to find somethings that work for you. my best to you . I will be watching the board to see what you have found that works and you will find something.

An alternative to sleeping medication is Trazodone, 100mg - 150 mg.  I use this as I used to have a terrible time getting to sleep and my anxiety kicked into high gear........Buspar alone does not make me sleep but does help with anxiety.

Sorry to here you are having problems sleeping I can relate on that one as I have bad sleep patterns which does make my anxiety a lot worse and I constantly feel tired. I would recommend that you give up caffinated drinks but warm milk before bedtime can help you get to sleep, I would say talk to you doctor and see if a sleeping pill would help to get your sleeping patterns back to normal and get you some sleep. A good antidepressant which helps with anxiety and sleep is Mirtazipine which you take at night time which could be something to cgat about with your doctor or the other one is Trazodone as Kitt said in her post. I hope things get better for you soon and we are here for you if you need us.
