Anxiety over Dr. appt results

Male, age 52, taking 20 mg Lexapro for panic attacks.  This drug is really helping me, been on it about 3 years.  Recently received word from my urologist that my PSA (prostate cancer screening) test came in at 2.47.  While this is not terribly high, it's higher than the previous 1.51 taken two years ago.  The results card indicated he wanted to do another test in 6 months.  It's been 2 days and I'm scared to death about this.  Posted some notes on the Prostate Cancer forum, but I'm afraid my main problem could be in my anxiety and mental health more than physically.  I have made another appt. with my Dr. for next week, as I don't think I can wait 6 months for news.  This is absolutely taking over my thought processes.  Aftraid I'm already becoming obsessive about this.  Any advice?   THANKS!

Don't beat yourself up to much here. You have every right to be concerned. That is just human nature. Something we all have to grasp at some point in time. So your just reacting like anyone else in your position would be. How you deal with it is what makes the difference.

Now with that said! Ask doc for a "quickie" med like Xanax to help ease some of your extra panic/anxiety. This might help ya function a little better through out the day. Maybe try some focus breathing

And keep in mind that is a low reading. Which is a good sign. If something is up you are catching it way early!


-- I am female (duh name gives it away) And I have health anxiety (major) So I do not know much about your situation you are facing. If I was to check into it I would probably worry the rest of my life about dad, bro's etc. Which of course would not be a good thing. So I am sorry I can't offer any words of wisdom. But I think you are smart to insist on another visit get some word from the doc on why he wants to wait 6 months. Being Proactive instead of Reactive is my little motto. Nip it BEFORE it turns into something major.
As stated I have no idea. Something might cause an up and down reading..(guessing here).
But I wish you luck. And be persistent with that doc of yours. If you do not get answers to your questions find another who will do what is needed to ease your concerns or at least act quicker on them.

We all have to remember that nowadays, cancer is curable when it's found early. Don't fret just yet as others have said. Worrying only brings on other problems. Try to keep your mind off of your prostate by doing fun, relaxing things. Don't forget to exercise! You'll feel better!
