xanax > how much do you take ?

Hi.just couious, i have been on xanax for 8 years. I was taking. 025 mg smallest dose 4 times a day and 2 at night. which is 6 pills a day 1 1/2 mgs  the reason is, im not sleeping and having some anxiety. .He has upped my does to 6 a day 0.25  and 4 at night 1 mg   which i am NOT TAKING because i know how hard it is to get off the stuff... However i did for a couple nights just to get some sleep..At first, i still didnt sleep on all that but for the last 2 nights i have. However im weening tonight to get back down to my regular dose...Anyway if you take Xanax, how much do you take a day....

I take Xanax 0.5 mg 1-3 times a day if needed. I mostly take it at night before bed along with an herbal supplement called Sleep Md. It is sold over the counter and works great for me. Try to ween yourself from Xanax as much as you can. You have to do it gradually so your body doesn't go into shock. Hope this helps and you get the much needed rest.

I take 4 Mg a day, 1 mg tablet every 6 hours if panic is really bad (and I dont do it often) I take a fifth one. Been on Xanax for over 25 years, it helps me make it through the day and out the door

I have been taking Xanax for more than 6 years. The pill is 0.5mg - which I cut if half and take with Lexapro 10 mg. daily. I only take the "whole" pill a couple of times. I agree with Maz "Xanax is the best anti-anxiety med".
In fact, if for any reason I needed to leave in a hurry, I would take my dog and Xanax!!!. Seriously, when we travel, first is Xanax then my passport.

The best thing you can do is learn to cope with the anxiety/panic attacks. You could educate yourself. There are many great books for sale on this website that would help you. Don't avoid places or situations. Avoiding only prolongs getting better. Remember, it's not the places or situations that bring on the attacks. It's the way you're thinking.

Your Xanax questions should be asked of a pharmacist or your doctor. They will know how you are supposed to be taking the drug. Xanax is not a long term answer and that is why I suggested you begin educating yourself.

Learn some relaxation techniques, also. The symptoms will not hurt you. They're scary but harmless. The more you fear them the longer they last. The key is acceptance of the anxiety and riding it through calmly. One day you'll find yourself anxious but not afraid. You'll be a calmer person. Let us know how you're doing!

That's true. The panic attacks are not brought on by negative thinking or "what-ifs". But you can learn to cope with a panic/anxiety attack without using medication. There are many people who do it.

I am very new to this, I know now that I have had panic attacks for YEARS, but had no idea what it was! about 6 mnth ago thay had gotten so bad that I wouldn't let me husband leave my side....but I'd just set and cry or feel like I was dying! He took me to the dr, I'm 36.....we thought maybe I was premenopausal! They tried me on prozac......made me sooo sick! Then we tried Lexapro, my blood pressure dropped like crazy! Hence, the xanax! It's helped ALOT, and I know I need to try breathing excercises, I HATE MEDS!!!!! I've just been through alot in the past 6 years, and they feel it's tied to post tramatic stress......but I've had tons of tests done, and like most here, I'm strong as an OX....a 104 lb ox....LOL! It's great to know, but I still feel c-r-a-z-y MOST of the time! SO thanks TO ALL!!!!! My biggest problem has been coming from a VERY Christian family, and I'm saved and know God's in control.....But my family is having a hard time accepting that this isn't something I can just pray about and it will go away! I do pray.....But I think I do need to learn more and find some info on excercises and breathing/ relaxing techniques! ANy one have a good book to suggest......THANKS AGAIN!!!!! And you guys have been one of my answers to my prayers. I'm NOT alone!

hi everyone.  i take xanax at 0.5 mg and i can take up to three times daily.  i usually just take one a day sometimes two if the anxiety is really bad and i can't sleep.  when the anxiety and panic are really bad then i take all three.
