I am having real problems right now and I feel the only jobs i could do would be ones where I could work from home. I am currently a pet sitter and am looking for something that will support me. I thought of selling jewelry online (I also make it), or Avon... I have 2 art-related degrees and even when I was feeling fine I had trouble getting work.
What kinds of other jobs could I do?

The job market is tight right now.  One job comes to mind and that is doing medical transcription from home.  You would have to take a course in medical terminology but these are available online.

I would like to see you do something out of your home that was very casual.  I hate to see you isolate yourself as it will be harder and harder for you to be out with the public if you do everything from home.

Could you do some sort of work with children, they are fun to work with? 

If you are an artist could you volunteer to do some face apinting at a church or school function in your community?

could you offer art lessons in your home? For adults or art for special needs kids is severely lacking in many areas. This way you'd get a pay check and be at home, but still be around others. And then set up an art show of their work at a local mall! That would get you out for something fun! (sometimes working with others who are struggling with other problems helps us to cope better with our own)
This could supplement your online selling of jewelry or Avon.

with your art degrees, could you maybe temp/sub at a local high school as an art teacher? you wouldnt have to leave your comfort zone entirely, and temp money is good. (well it is here in Australia)

Also, check out close to your house nursing homes for the elderly- you could do art and crafts with them. The money isnt great (ive done it) but its better than nothing, and they love human contact,

Hey there. I am currently looking for a part time job outside or inside the home so I have a couple of ideas. If you feel comfortable speaking to people on the phone, there are customer service work at home jobs. I've also seen some data entry jobs. You can tell the legitimate ones, because they are not promising you'll make hundreds of dollars in a day. The pay seems to be around $8-$9 an hour US currency, not great, but you don't have to leave your house.  They require that you have all equipment and you work for them hourly. I like the idea of selling jewelry from home. The internet opens up a lot of opportunities. You could use Ebay or Etsy to sell your stuff. You can also rent space at craft shows or flea markets. I also agree that applying to your local school district might be a good idea. What about teaching community education? As someone else said, nursing homes hire activity directors to plan craft projects for the residents. I've been a sahm for almost 8 years and I'm just starting to look for part time work so I can totally emphasize with you. Lets not let anxiety get the best of us!

Thank you for the ideas. Here's some caveots though:

--Teaching--I've never done; I'm a shy person so I don't know if that will work. And you usually need a teaching training to do that.

--Elderly--I've thought of that b4 actually as a volunteer, but I think it would depress me. And there's the shy thing I have.

--The Avon and Jewelry were ideas but I didnt know if they would be worth it. Guess I wanted some input on that, if anyone else has done those and if they've worked. If someone else is selling Avon, we could team up perhaps and share contacts. I don't know many girl-friends; I have mostly guy friends. For jewelry, I thought of buying wholesale, only b/c it takes a few hrs to make a piece and to be competitive, it would end up being the equivilant of $7/hr...

--Baking--I can bake, from recipies, but I don't know if ppl would buy it if they can make it at home.

--Newspaper--maybe--I know those are obscenely early hours and I don't know what the pay is.

--Phone--probably not, due to the shy thing. Cust. Service ppl get some pretty angry customres and I can't deal with that. I found a $9/hr job but it is retail and won't cut it as far as living on my own. Even along with the petsitting I already do. I'd have to make about $600/week to support myself.

I'm with you on the teaching thing too. I wouldn't feel comfortable with that either. I did sell Avon for a very short while, mainly just for the discount. I know a few people that sell it too. you could certainly do it on the side, but it will not support you. The start up cost is minimal though, it was $10 when I did it a couple of years ago. You do not purchase merchandise up front. You order everything and you have to send in payment a week or so after you get the products. You get between 20-50 percent off the total, depending on what your sales volume is. There's no minimum order required, but if you don't order once a month I think they will drop you after a certain period of time. If you have friends or family that work someplace with lots of women and they are allowed to leave an Avon catalog there, the products pretty much sell themselves because most of the prices are competitive with drug store prices. You can grow your business through internet sales and by passing out brochures, but you have to pay extra for those things. What if you did that and tried to sell jewelry and did your current job? Maybe that would give you enough money to survive? You could add delivering the Pennysaver if you have that in your area. It's a free weekly paper. You only deliver it once a week and you can deliver it any time of day. I don't think you make much, but it would add up I guess.

I know first hand how hard it is to have a job when you have anxiety. I was working for Comcast and was beginning to have panic attacks while on the phone, and it was strange, because there was really no reason behind it. I mean, I'd literally start shaking and crying even when there was a VERY nice person on the other line. I'll never forget walking up to my boss and letting him know that I just needed to find something else, because it wasn't fair for the customers. Now, I'm looking for online work cool

Good Morning,

Just a couple of thoughts............I work for our school district and the openings I see most often are Dietary staff, janitorial, Teachers assistant................lots of part time and kids are fun to work with.  They do not notice if you are anxious and once you get to work and get into your job the anxiety will fade away as you become more comfortable.

Also no weekends or holidays :)

Another good job that is pretty lucrative in our area now is doing Home Health Nursing. All you do is go into older/disabled people's homes and help them out with things like baths, cleaning, companionship, etc. It can range from part time to full time, and is actually pretty laid back work. An added benefit that will help your anxiety is the wonderful feeling of confidence you will gain by helping others as you get out and deal with your issues. The confidence in my opinion is one of the major cornerstones for recovery from A/P.

youre an artist, yes? my best friend has lupus very badly and after the birth of her first baby can no longer work. however she paints and does crafts like needlepoint and crocheting etc and sells it on Ebay- all from the comfort of her own home. Its turned into quite a little money- spinner for her.

I think Maz has a great idea. For example, I have Osteo and Crohns Disease, and I love the microwavable corn bags. I was buying them on the internet but they got too pricey. So I started making them myself, and have shared a few with some friends. More are asking for them. So something like this would be good for you to do. Think of things others need, and maybe you will come up with something that might help someone in pain or anxious. Good luck!

How about hooking up with your mental health association - they might have placements for folks who self-identify with anxiety issues. It might be a place to get some ideas at least.
