New member, Panic attacks and Anxiety

Hello, let me start off by saying I was diagnosed with severe anxiety disorder with panic at age 15, I am 19 now. I was supposedly "cured" of my panic and anxiety once I dropped out of high school and got my GED. I had not had any panic or anxiety until age 18 when it started again. Recently though, I have been having a lot of panic and anxious feelings, especially at my new job and college I just started. I have been having a strange feeling I have never felt before, I have been feeling like I wasn't in my body fully, almost as if I was floating around my own body watching myself move around and do what I was doing. I'm not sure why or how this has been happening, but I was wondering if anyone else has had feelings like this before? It usually happens at work, I often forget what I am doing when it happens... any help would be appreciated.

I believe what you are describing is known as depersonalization.

Depersonalization is a sense that things around you aren't real, or the feeling that you're observing yourself from outside your body. Feelings of depersonalization can be very disturbing and may feel like you're losing your grip on reality or living in a dream. Many people have a passing experience of depersonalization at some point. Depersonalization may be triggered by stress or trauma, and it often occurs along with other mental health conditions such as anxiety.



May I suggest counseling as this helps you understand why depersonalization occurs and trains you to stop worrying about the symptoms so that they go away ?



I would start with your PCP and talk with him/her re you sx. I know many members do very well with counseling and for me it has helped control my anxiety.
