Any meds out there that don't cause nausea?

I have been having problems with anxiety/panic attacks for 6 years. I have tried some different meds, like Lexapro, Cymbalta, and others to try and get my panic attacks under control. The only thing I have been able to tolerate is Xanax. I was just prescribed Zoloft and took the first pill lastnight. I woke up at midnight with extreme stomach pain, constipation, and restlessness. I don't think I can take another night like this. I have been reading on the forums that Zoloft can cause upset stomach for weeks when you first start taking it. I have two young children to take care of and I can't be sick like this for two and sleep deprived as well. I stopped taking the Cymbalta and Lexapro because they made my panic attacks worse. So, my question is, are there any meds like these out there that don't cause nausea? There seem to be so many different kinds and I really need one that is going to be gentle on me. For now, I guess I'm going to have to stick with taking the Xanax for the panic attacks. I really can't feel this sick all the time!!

I always had the exact same problems with AD's.  My Dr. Just recently put me on Buspar for Anxiety.  I do take Xanax as needed.  I have not had any side effects with Buspar as I started at a low dose and moved up a little very slowly.  It has been the only med I have been able to tolerate for any length of time.  It is a mild med, so I do not feel like a Zombie.  At first my head felt tingling about 30 minutes after I took it, but it went away quickly and after all the side effects I had suffered through, that was nothing.  Good luck finding a med you can tolerate, I know how frustrating that can be, keep trying different things, you will get there.

I was actually prescribed buspar a few months ago, but I decided not to take it because I did some research and it seemed like it was more for Generalized Anxiety Disorder than Panic Disorder. It might be worth a shot if it doesn't cause the nausea and sickness that the Zoloft did. I'm going to talk to my doctor about it again.

Good Morning,

BuSpar is used in the treatment of anxiety disorders.

I also take Buspar as my P-Doc prescribed it for anxiety.  I have not had any problems with it.  You can ease on to this medication slowly and that will help avoid any side effects.

I hope you will try the Buspar  :)

Is Buspar an anti-depressant?  I thought it was an anti anxiety med.........If it is an ad, than that would explain why it is making me more hyper when I increased dosage.......Chest pains so bad today, made an appt on the 30th with PDoc to make sure I am on the right med path.

BuSpar is an antianxiety medication only, not an antidepressant. cool

Thanks.  I was starting to think that it was the Buspar that was making me hyper and achy.  One Dr told me a few years ago that I was bipolar and not to take ad's.  Regular Dr. told me GAD.  I called and made an appt with a PDoc on the 30th, just to make sure meds are ok.

Im extremely sensitive to meds also, but for me, Zoloft does not make me nauseous. Its been the best AD in that respect in my situation. I also have chronic ear, nose and throat problems and that makes me dizzy and nauseous, but Zoloft has been pretty gentle on me.

Weird. Zoloft made me puke for six hours. Of course a lot of that was my own anxiety and overreaction to the very first puke session.

Benzodiazepines don't cause nausea. I must sound like an advertisement for them sometimes. They have their drawbacks, but they don't make many people nauseous. I've read the trials on most of them and never saw any nausea that was statistically significant. I can't remember which one, but a benzo used to be used to treat nausea in people that had to go through chemo and radiation and all that. Since then they've come up with a better med for that, though. I can't remember its name either. Zofran or something.

Youre right, its Zofran. Its heavy duty, normally reserved for chemo patients etc but Ive been hospitalised recently with gastrointestinal problems and the Zofran was the only one that helped me not want to puke besides Stemetil.

Out off all the AD i have tried Citalopram was the one which i had the least problems with. I hope you find something which helps you soon.

Went to the doc again yesterday to tell him about the reaction to the Zoloft. He said he thinks I have the stomach flu and it wasn't the Zoloft that made me sick. The problem now that even if that is true, I'm too scared to try the Zoloft again. He prescribed me some IC Cyproheptadine and I'm honestly not even sure what it's for. I couldn't find a whole lot of info on the internet and I'm kinda out of it because I'm still sick with stomach problems and dizziness. I've barely eaten anything in 3 days. My anxiety is going through the roof from being sick so I'm still taking Xanax but taking it on any empty stomach makes it feel like I swallowed fire. I think I'm going crazy.... I am ready to go check myself in to a psych ward so they can drug me up to where I'm a drooling vegetable just so that I won't have to feel this bad anymore.

Dear woe,

It appears the medication you have been given may be an Antihistamine.  Please call your pharmacist and ask what this medication is?

Woe,

I'd definitely ask your doctor for further clarification concerning what he diagnosed you with, and what he's prescribed to you. There's no such illness as a "stomach flu", for instance. That's a layman's umbrella term that could mean just about anything, not a professional diagnosis.

I think if you had solid answers you might feel more at ease.

Woe i use to take zoloft a few years ago and i think it made me a little naseaus for about 2 weeks then it subsided. The only problem i remember having was insomnia,really bad insomnia. Other than that i think it was ok. I don't remember why i stopped taking it. I think it might have been the insomnia.I've been on alot of different A/P meds and generally all of them made me a little naseaus for a couple of weeks but as my body adjusted to them i felt better.You made need to give a little more time or either try something else.I've been on prozac now for a little over a week i hope it works well for me. Anyway good luck on finding the right one sometimes it takes a few to find the right one.
