Hello A&P family, how is everyone doing? I hope all is well. As for me Im trying to get my nerves together to take my second trip down South to Alabama. Last year as some of you may remember we traveled by car but this year were taking the train because they dont want to do all of the driving for such a long period of time. The plane is out of the question for some of us including myself. So now it looks as if the train is our only option. We are looking at coach because its so many of us and even though i will be more comfortable in one of those sleeper cars, that will double the price of our tickets shocked . Ive been looking at some pics of the coach cars and they seem soo closed in and Im afraid that because of the close quarters and the fact that we may be picking up more and more people on the way(resulting in a full car) that I may have a very rough 19 hours on this train. cry So I guess if anyone has any experience in train travel or any suggestions on hov to handle this please let me know. I have to take this trip to see my Mom. Thanks guys.

I personally would rather ride in a train than a plane. I love on the train how you can look out and watch the countryside as you pass. I think you will do fine, and actually enjoy it. Good luck and have fun!

Hey there,


I rode the train for years and took my young children with me at the time. On the train you can be up moving around and visit the different cars. There is always the "dome car" where you feel like your right there in the wide open.



Do plan on having a good time. Bring a deck of cards as you can entertain yourselves. It will be an adventure.

Urgh i can relate to this - i get so nervous about long journeys!

I think the important thing to remember is you will be there with people who love you and people that understand that you might get nervous at parts - everyone is on your side and understands :)

Secondly, i think you have to try with all your might to set out for that journey feeling excited - NOT thinking "OH NO" because then its like you've already decided your going to panic before you even set out!

Try and enjoy the journey - talk to everyone - take this time to have a good old catch up - how often do you get to sit with your loved ones for so long without being interupted - this could be great! Like the above comment says - take cards - take a sketch pad whatever makes you feel good - take old photo albums to look through - or music always helps me!

I think you will settle into the journey - even if your nervous at first it will just all settle down and you will be able to relax :)

Thanks guys Ive been planning what I can take to keep my mind off of things and Im glad that I just got a laptop so I will definetly be taking it to occupy me I just hope there will be outlets to plug in my "long trip survival devices" Ive also planned for my sister to help us out with the kids. Kitt i plan on checking to see if our train has a dome car I think that will be cool for my son to experience that. Nanners most of our trip will be over night but Im sur I will be up early enough to see some of the countryside before we reach my mom. Boxcastle I really hope i will be able to settle into this journey whats funny is that ive taken a trip on the train to Florida as a kid, which is just as far but I wasnt this bundle of nerves as a kid!
