Hi Mary, Well I don't want to list my symptoms as they are many, and some members should not read lists of symptoms as they can subconsciously 'adopt' them. (the power of suggestion is a trigger for some) Let me just say that I suffered from panic disorder, and health anxiety in an acute manner before seeking treatment. I had panic attacks, sometimes multiple nearly everyday. These were often centered around a physical symptom, or perceived problem with my health. I truly believed that I was dying from a series of serious medical disorders/diseases. It was a living nightmare that robbed my of energy, joy, emotion-just about
everything good in my life. Now for the good news, I sought help and am recovering. I say recovering, because it is a continuing process, but I am so much healthier in mind and body after working in therapy! I no longer suffer the panic attacks, and when I am anxious, I can use my 'tools' to fight it. I went through two courses of Cognitive Behavorial Therapy, and was patient and worked very hard. It does take an effort to get better, but it is worth getting your life back! I also checked out and read a lot of books from my library. This is such a simple and incredibly rich resource!
Recovery is such an individual journey. What worked for me, may not for someone else. You have to be very pro-active in finding the right treatment for yourself. You can do it though. Start with some books, and try to get a referral for a therapist from your doctor. I will also leave you some websites for some relaxation/breathing exercises that are very helpful.
You are not in this alone, and you can do it! Post anytime:)
