Bailed on turkey day... wow

I finally got ahold of my shrink and she told me to start lexapro.  I have been really anxious but took Lexapro last night and today.

Now i'm totally groggy and out of it but still having anxiety attacks.  oh and diarrhea!  I'm too nauceous to eat.

I was sposed to go to my parents for turkey day but I freaked out when I was not even a block away and made my husband drive me home.

I feel so horrible.  I should have gone.  My two year old is going to wake up from her nap after the car ride and wonder where I am.  I feel like such a loser.

Dang.

Skipped out on thanksgiving.

Thanks Sam. I feel so sad about it. I made it to the first thanksgiving but the second one was my side of the family and it just feels important to me.

Unfortunately my dad makes me extremely anxious and doesn't like to recognize the fact I have anxiety... so in some ways I think it makes me feel worse. But I will go to Christmas !

That's the goal anyway.

I know it is sad, because I did the same thing a couple of times, especially with my dad's side of the family too. . . My father also makes me feel anxious and I've had to learn to limit my time with him, lol. He is also one to believe that anxiety is nothing but weakness, but I try not to let that bother me anymore. I just have to look at it as him being a little limited in his thinking and move forward on my own good path that I've been building :)

Hey, at least you are making some goals to do Christmas, and that is a huge step there :) Good luck to you!

TG-This isn't my usual forum but I've battled anxiety problems & panic attacks since I was 14 (makes it about 35 years) and I had to bail on my only family-my 2 aged parents (both 74) today because of other health issues and I totally felt like crap and cried & cried about it, but I was too sick to go out with them for dinner. I was too physically ill to get out of bed and throw on some clothes and just drag myself out the door, and I've been beating myself up over it until I got ahold of a good friend who pointed out to me that I was beating myself up over something I had absolutely no control over, and in her most loving way told me to stop it! I did for a while, then started feeling bad again, then better...Anyway, you are not alone. I have lots of psych issues, and adjusting to new meds can be so unpredictable, we have to just ride it out. I'm trying focus on the positive things to be thankful for so the day isn't a total waste, and I honestly have much to be thankful for. You are so lucky to have a husband and baby who love you! I don't have that, and trust me-you are very lucky to have that in your life. Give yourself a break-you're doing your best, it just takes time for new meds to kick in. Bless you, dear, and good luck!
