Carly...
So good to hear from you! As far as the magnesium...I can only tell you what is working for me. We are all different but the magnesium seems to be working for a lot of people. Dancinheart is now taking Mg and is feeling no palps. Fugs took them and it increased the heart rate. So start out with a low dosage (I jumped right in with 500mg and I started having headaches but no more palps). Hopefully it will work for you! I am now taking about 300mg a day. The headaches went away and I still have no palps. Its amazing!! I know there are different kinds of Mg and there is one that absorbs in the body much better than the others. When I went to the pharmacy to get my Mg, they only had one kind and it was just plain ol' magnesium (which Ive read if it just says magnesium, it will be the kind that doesnt absorb as well). However, it is working fine for me and since I spent the money on them, I will use them til they are gone and then possibly look for the other kind. But these are working just great for me so far! I adjusted my dosage so I could take my multi-vitamins. My vitamins have 50mg magnesium, so every morning I take my multi-vitamin, fish oil 1000mg (which is also good for the heart), and 125mg of Mg. Then at night I take another 125mg Mg. Im keeping my fingers crossed but it has been a couple weeks since Ive had palps...one or two tiny palps have snuck in but they were very faint feeling so it didnt even phase me. Let me know how it works for you!
I asked my son if he was taking the vitamins that I sent with him to college and he said no, he keeps forgetting! So to get him started on Mg would probably not work since he cant remember to take the vitamins!!! Im sure if the palps bother him too much, he will let me know and then I will talk to him about the Mg.
Its amazing to me that I have been taking heart medicine for all these years which has helped a little bit, but throwing in magnesium has made them go away. I think doctors should check into the magnesium a little more before they put someone on a beta blocker if all heart tests are coming back normal. Oh well. I will continue doing what Im doing now because I feel soooo much better!
