So tomorrow is New Years Eve, and like many Id like to enjoy a glass or two of the fun stuff. But this is my first year on an anti-depressant. Just how dangerous is it to drink alchohol while on Lexapro? And would it hurt anything or make a difference if I skipped tonight and took my meds in the morning [i take them between 10 and 11 at night right now]. Im thinking if theres quite a bit of time between the meds and the alchohol then the effects might be lessened. Is this dangerous to do even for one night? Im not a heavy drinker, Id just like to enjoy it with my family and friends.

Don't skip a dose of your meds. It's not a good idea. Honestly I drank on lexapro all the time. I don't drink anymore but one or two drinks won't hurt. Just don't get drunk. I'm not a doctor so this is just my opinion. Talk to your doctor or shrink as well.

Yeah. I did a little research and found that it basically increases the effects of the alchohol. This means getting drunker sooner. Im pretty much a lightweight anyway so its just 1 for me, thats it!

Roy,

I have read the same as you, drinking alcohol while on Lexapro is not recommended. This is because if alcohol and Lexapro are taken together, Lexapro may potentially increase the effects of the alcohol.

Do not skip a dose of Lexapro is my understanding.

Yes. I get drunk very easily since I started taking Lexapro. I probably drink once or twice a year. Three drinks and I'm dancing on tables -- literally. It takes me a few days to recover.

When I drank on Cipralex (Canadian Lexapro) it was fine...until later. The drinking and being kinda tipsy was okay, it was when it started to wear off I got really anxious. Of course, that may have also been because my boyfriend and I had a horrible night altogether. Waking up the next day was brutal too - Hangover and anxiety like nobody's business.

Hi

I take lexapro and it is best if you avoid alcohol or keep your drinking to the minimum. Alcohol is a depressant and does not mix well with any antidepressant in my personal view and can make your anxiety a lot worse when the effects of the alcohol ware off eg the next morning.

may i ask how long youve been on lexepro and how its working for you? my doctor wanted to start me on that, but im trying some other things first. (EDMR and possibly CBT therapy), but i was just wondering. i know everyone is different.

ive been on lexapro since november. it had some bad side effects for me at first. now its working wonders for my anxiety <3
