Anxiety linked to periods?

I was wondering if anyone else has excessive anxiety when its their time of the month. I'm always a little anxious, but around the time before/during/shortly after my period, I feel as if my anxiety levels sky rocket. Before my period, its the anxiety of possibly being pregnant. Then, once I get my period and know I am not, it switches to my usual anxiety focuses (which tend to be accidents/deaths involving those I love, HIV even though I've been tested and regularly donate blood without any negative feedback, and other serious things. The fear of accident/death is obvious, and I believe my fear of HIV is my tendency to focus on the worst case scenario), then usually a little after my period, the anxiety diminishes substantially.

Anyone else experience this?

Like you Katykat87, I have had the same fears/anxieties/worries. I dont take anything for it, but find myself the week before like on alert. I get weird feelings and thoughts, alot of "what-if's?"...which make it worse. I can hardly wait for my period to end!!! I feel like I almost have OCD, because I become focused on something, search the internet then panic even more!! It is an absolutely horrible feeling. Sometimes I feel so paralized by it, dont feel like eating, get the shakes, and feeling of cold. I like you have been tested, have had 3 children, so I know I dont have to worry about STD's or HIV but its scarey. I even get scared because of an abusive relationship that I ended about 5 years ago, that he will find me and make my life hell. I just sit and tell myself that as soon as these few days or week passes, I will be back to normal. I am actually in the week before now and have been expierencing the same things. I try and pray and meditate, then I get real emotional, more emotional that I used to be. Best wishes to you....the feeling is horrible, but know your not alone. I think to that it could be related to some sore to PTSD, and we may not realize it. Get better, and hang in there....brighter days are ahead.

I get so anxious during,before,after cycle..Keep in mind your hormones are changing during that period of time and can cause more anxiety. You sound like me before I went on an anti-depressant obsessing about everything. They have meds you can take just during your period. Just try to relax as much as you can during that time of month. I am 10x worse 1 week before the week during and about 5 days after. So 19 days of pure torture. I've never had the dreaded cramps before. But for some reason now I do. And that really makes it all even worse.. Comes down to the "worst case scenarios" as well.

So really I only have like 9 days where its less. But its not long enough for a real break.

I get edgy and more anxious a few days before my period. I've been told it's hormonal. If you are in need of BC anyways the pill can help regulate it. I was also told by my doctor that I could take prozac or some other SSRI drug for it, but I'd have to take it 3 out of 4 weeks of the month. I decided I'd rather be a little anxious and crabby for a few days than go back on meds. I can't take BC pills anymore because of the combo of my age and the fact that I get migraine headaches, but if it were an option I'd try it! There are certain foods you're supposed to stay away from like chocolate, salty foods, etc. You  know, all the things you crave before your period .
