I have had GAD, major depression and panic disorder for the last five years.  I have Rx for celexa 20mg which they cut down to 10mg and had to go back to 20 the other day and I am on klonopin 0.5mg. I still have bad anxiety and panic attacks which cause my HR to shoot up to 120+ and BP 147/82. well went to the ER today and he gave me an Rx for Atenolol for the physical symptoms such as the racing heart rate, palpations and BP...Hope it works cos I really hate this. plz post back mad   Would like some info.

Hello Jess and welcome,

I have a long history of trying meds until I would find combos that were close but along with the meds I have a therapist and this support group.

I use Inderal for the very symptoms you have been prescribed Atenolol  - to keep your heart rate and BP under control.

I hope you take the time to read some of great threads and that you will see we all struggle at times and we all experience the good times too.

Hey thanx so much...i am going to see my very first psychiatrist next week. I am so glad I found this group because I feel so alone eventho I have an awesome support system they really dont know what this is like.  Its soo scary and i feel like im losing my mind

Ok so its day 2 of taking ATENOLOL....heres my thoughts on it.  It makes me very tired and sleepy but hopefully that will pass. I have not been having the awful symptoms of anxiety and panic like the rapid heart rate, palpations and spike in BP. I am feeling like my "old  self" again but just very sleepy lol.  I will keep a continuous log on here to let you guys know how this is working.

Hi Jess, I hope that you start to feel better soon, and get through the side effects of your new prescription asap!

I am so glad to hear that you have a therapy appointment next week. IMO it is the best long-term solution for battling A/P!

Until then, try to practice relaxation and deep breathing. This will help you with your B.P as well (although the reading that you posted, was not dangerously high-especially if it's a temporary spike and not sustained)

I am glad that you feel comfortable posting here. We are all in the same boat so to speak, and we're here to undersand and support each other always!

Hi Cat,

Yes I am actually looking forward to therapy. I have put it off and put it off and after going to the ER and having to much anxiety I told myself that I am going to do what ever I have to to get better. I have my husband and two little girls to think about and I couldnt to that in the condition I was in. I really couldnt do anything all I want to do was stay in the house and lay in bed. Im so glad that I foud this site for support but also for another reason...I am not alone in this battle!
