Hi Dianna,
Stress, anxiety and panic can most definitely cause you to have loose stools. I go through that all the time. If I'm under a lot of stress, if my anxiety is high or if I'm having panic attacks, it's frequent trips to the bathroom and it's always just as you described. If you feel you need medication for your anxiety and the doctor you are seeing now won't give it too you because of your age, I'd find a new doctor! In my mind it doesn't matter what age you are, and actually I think it's best to do something about it now rather than wait and possibly allow it to get out of control. Just know that you are not alone in what you are experiencing, I've been there too!
I'm the same way with thinking the worst about things too and get kind of obsessed with it, which it sounds like you may be as well. The best thing for me to do when this happens is to repeatedly state the facts to myself, or even write them down rather than allow my thinking to roam to the "what if's". For example, in your case, "I know that all the bacteria has been removed from my system, because I took all the antibiotics and the retest came back negative and the reason I'm having loose stools is because I'm overly worried and anxious about it." Things like that will help you to change your negative thinking and hopefully lower your anxiety level a bit.
Do you use CBT? That is definitely the thing that has helped me the most, so that's worth looking into. Maybe counseling for anxiety as well, that's helped me too. Keep posting here too! Hope this helps you!
