Hello everyone

My name is Melissa, my attacks started in April 2011, I have been doing therapy and it is working. My anxiety is worse at night. My main question is lately I have been freaking out about taking medications. I took advil for a headache I had and felt my heart tense up and could not sleep for 4 hours until I knew it was out of my system, I also freaked out when I had to get a TB shot, Is this normal I have never in my life felt that way about meds. I just have this thought that I can feel what ever I take going through my body and I am going to have a negative side effect.  All feedback is welcome thank you

This is a common thing when it comes to anxiety. I can distinctly remember times when I would take a motrin or an aleve and I would immediately get anxious. Anxiety makes you fearful of taking/doing a lot of things. But, you will eventually get through it. I am working on that issue myself. Take care and post often!

Hi Melissa,

Welcome to the anxiety/panic forum. This is a great place. I agree that anxiety makes us very sensitive to our bodies. Maybe too much. Do know that in time you will get through this. A lot of people have phobias about medications. So don't feel alone. Keep posting and I am sure that you will find many people struggle with this too. It is the weekend so it is a little slower here, but as the week comes, things do pick up.

Keep posting, and know that this is a wonderful forum.

Hello and welcome to HealingWell.   Pull up a chair and sit awhile.  We love new members.

Anxiety re taking medications is very common and many member have this same fear as you do.  This phobia even has it's own name - Pharmacophobia.

You may want to talk to your Dr. regarding the medication and find out everything you want to know.  Also be sure to discuss the side effects of withdrawing from the medication.

Hi YM and welcome! I am sorry that you have been having these fears and worries. I understand completely. I am phobic about meds as well...to the point of I had two totally natural childbirths. At one point during my first labor I asked for an aspirin and the L&D nurses literally guffawed in my face and started to order and epidural. I quickly said 'I'm okay, nevermind!'

I can't very well give you advice as I have not conquered this myself, but you have been advised well by others. I just wanted to welcome you, and encourage you that we members here share many of the same issues, and are here to support each other;)
