I need your help...can anxiety/stress cause chronic diarrhea?

I recently learned of a disease called Habba. It was featured on the Discovery show- Mystery Diagnosis. Anyway it is related to how the gall bladder functions (or doesn't) resulting in diarrhea, usually after eating. There is medicine for it that really helps people.

Yes, to diarrhea and hair loss.  anxiety can wreck your insides.  Maybe try keeping a food journal, write down what you eat for a week or two and see if you can determine any patterns of distress with certain foods.

I will pray for you and wish you only the best and to feel better. To answer your question, yes anxiety/stress can do a lot to our bodies. Are you having anxiety attacks or panic attacks? I think you should seek a therapist or psychiatrists opinion and help if you clearly know you are having anxiety that is becoming bothersome in your everyday life.

I wish I would have sought help when I was your age but family didn't believe in telling someone your personal problems. I hit rock bottom and ended up in inpatient treatment 9-months ago. 43-years of bowel problems had taken its toll. I can't imagine now life without my psychiatrist who is there for me. I just had an ileostomy a month ago, and am finally getting a new life.

Don't give up...But how your body responds to anxiety and worry definately can effect your everyday life. I have been married 23-years and have 7-kids. They have watched me suffer and live in a bathroom my entire life.

I totally know how you feel. At least your GI sent you for tests. He just told me to start taking Immodium everyday. Gee, thanks!

I have been reading Eating for IBS by Heather Van Vorous and have found it helpful. She gives lots of tips on which foods can be triggers and lots of great recipes. Best of all, she has IBS, so you know that she understands.

For the past few years I've had terrible anxiety that leads to chronic diarrhea. It seemed to be connected with going to school because it wasn't appearing during the summer. School just started this past week and has come back. I wake up and about ten minutes later my stomach is in knots and I have the diarrhea. It makes getting through the morning impossible. Honestly there should be no reason why I'm nervous, I love school and I've never had anything bad happen to me there. Does anyone have any advice? Is it possible to get on a medication for it?

I've had diarrhea every day for going on a month now. I've had bouts before in the last year or two that would last a few days, but then normalize. This time after two weeks, I finally went and got some flagyl from my general practitioner and am almost through with the seven-day dose. It has not helped as I have one day left and still terrible diarrhea as of today. It is usually in the morning 2-3 times, with occassional episodes other times of the day or night. Never normal.

I do have a lot of stress, worry and some depression, and have had for some years. Certain people in my family have had what was called a "nervous stomach" so that they had diarrhea when they got upset, but not this much as far as I know. What can I do? Immodium helps but I can't stay on that forever. I have no pain, and nothing irregular, other than the diarrhea. It is beyond soft...it is like water, no matter what my diet has been the previous day.

Please help!!
