I have had the same experiences with not having a choice and when I got home and relaized I made it I felt good about me.
I was in high anxiety all the way to the Black Hills a few years ago with my hubby and was in tears begging him to take me back home. He kept saying one more hour and see how you feel. Then I would ask him to just talk at me about anything which helped me calm down. By late afternoon we were at the half way mark and he asked what I thought ? I said lets spend the night here as planned and see how the morning is. By morning I thought I made it half way, let's just do it. Believe it our not I had a good time. I have GERD, Anxiety and IBS. I bought myself some black hills gold as a reward.
Another time I almost attacked a waitress in a restaurant because I got anxious and we were ready to leave but did not have our price ticket. I finally had to go sit in the car just to get out of the situation. I had been fine all week-end at a lovely resort but the closer I got to home the more I wanted to be there "right now".
Try exercising while you are house sitting.
Take a walk, play a game of basketball, or ride a bike. The point is to exercise because when you do, your body will release endorphins, which contribute to feeling good.
