Tattoo ideas.

Hi All

Some of you may be aware that the last few years especially the last few months have been very difficult for me but things are looking up still a long way to go but im feeling positive about life again.

I know that tattoo's are not every ones cup of tea and I do not have any myself at the moment but would like to get one done. I want to get something which symbolizes the fight I have had to go through with my anxiety/depression. Something which will be both a reminder of my past but also a positive statement for my future.

I have had a few ideas but nothing that has stuck out enough for me to get it done. Does any one have any suggestions? It could be a symbol, picture, phrase or a mixture.

Thanks for your post. I had thought about a phoenix bird and have seen some really nice designs for this. I had not thought of your other ideas so will look into those. I have been thinking about a tattoo for months now and yes it would have to be something I really like before I get it done but think it would be a good way of me putting a few things to rest but also looking to the future.

I think the tattoo idea is not so bad as long as it is a symbol of hope and strength for the future, but not something that reminds you so much of the past. What I really like is the fact that you feel positive again about life...that is a sign that you are getting stronger and you can build on your strength to work on being positive more and using good methoeds to help recover. Good job and good to hear that you are getting stronger!

Hi B;) Personally I'm not a big fan of ink...I prefer something less permanent, but that's just my opinion. I would recommend getting it in a place that could be covered easily when desired. I got my nose pierced a few years ago, and had to consider...is this permanent? Will it be acceptable at work, church, ect?

So if you are going through with it, I found a cool symbol on-line. If you want the site, post back and I'll try a link for you.

It's called the Triskelion Celtic Symbol. It looks something like a wheel or gear, with three 'legs' protruding from a circle, curling into itself. (trust me, it's way cooler than I'm making it sound)

Its meaning include:

*action
*cycles
*progress
*revolution
*competition
*moving forward
*past, present and future
*spirit, mind, body
*power, intellect, love
*spiritual growth
*human development
*spiritual expansion

Lots of good meaning in there. (also, I don't know if you are religious or not, but of course the Father, Son and Holy Spirit are also represented as the three parts to the symbol...could make your mum and dad happy...bonus!)

Anyway, good luck on your decision. Think long and hard! And if you pick mine, don't forget to put my initials right in the middle Haaaaaa haaa haaa!

Yeah the shoulder is a good choice...shows when you want it to, and hideable when it needs to be:)

Of course don't forget the most important part of the tatt ritual...the shots beforehand (within moderation of course!)

I like the Celtic knot.  Celtic tattoo knots represent a crossing of physical and spiritual interlace (e.g. interlaced knots).  The never-ending path in the Knotwork strands represents the permanent continuum of life, love, and spiritual growth. A lot to think about and consider.   

 

Some of my ancesters are Welsh so if you choose mine you can tuck in "Kitt" somewhere - and I love Haggis. Steam mine, serve with neeps,taties and pineapple.  Yummy.

I really liked Shanny's suggestions for you. I think tattoos are such a beautiful way to show how something in your life represents your life experiences. So I say "Go 4 it." I personally have 6 tattoos located on my leg, both forearms, back & back of neck. I will share with you the one that means so much to me is 3-Roman Numerals down my forearm. And around it is purple like flames like clouds...For me this represents the most difficult time in my life that I perserveered thru. I had been put on lockdown for a couple weeks on the psych ward (suicide floor), and the Roman Numerals stand for the room I was in. And just happens to also stand for my 5-daughters, 3-men in my life (husband & 2 sons), and 7-for how many kids I have.

So just think of something that represents you and I think you will be so happy with it. Make sure you pick a clean tattoo parlor that follows the guidelines of tattooing. Good luck, and can't wait to hear what you get.

Hi Guys

Some great ideas and stories. I will need to have a think about which art I would like inked onto my body if I go ahead with it I will get it done in London as they have some very good tattoo parlors all of which have very long waiting lists so that will give me time to think if i want to go ahead with it.

Some great suggestions of designs but I would also like to have a saying incorporated into the tattoo as well one which I like at the moment is:- Out of darkness cometh light any other suggestions?

Omg I LOVE the triskelion idea!!! I used to have a necklace with that pendant on it but never knew what it meant or what it was called. That's awesome!! I may even use that for myself!! ;)
I myself have one tatt on the back of my neck that I designed myself. It says "Live - Love - Laugh - Dream - Create" with an infinity symbol and I've definitely become addicted to them now. :) But take the wise advice from everybody, make sure you find a clean place to go, and make sure you know what you want because it doesn't just wash off. Lol. And laser removal is very painful and doesn't always work and sometimes can scar.

Welcome to the forum good to meet you. Yes the triskelion is a nice design and does have a great meaning but I really like the koi fish idea and have been looking into that apparently they always swim up stream so always battling the elements.
