eyes  Hi all, I have been a healing well forum member for awhile now, but have not visited much lately. I think this is the right place for me to be, ANXIETY when there  is nothing to be anxious about. My back hurts all the time and I know it is from being anxious 24/7  I just started Lexipro, small dose and I think it is worse, does this change after you have been on for awhile? I have been on for about 8 days now and increased it two days ago,just to 5mg, and i felt anxious all day.  Also think it is causing insomnia, has anyone experienced that?  My biggest question is  If you have experienced this and if it subsides after a few weeks. Thanks..

i tried lexapro last year and i felt more anxious too - i could only take it for about 4 days. i had to work and i felt like i drank 10 cups of coffee. yuck. my dr prescribed me effexor and i filled it but haven't take it yet. i don't like these weird side effects and want to cope on my own - not with drugs that make me feel worse. everyone says to hang in there and it will adjust after a few months but i just couldn't stand the way i felt.

I would suggest you talk to your doctor about these side effects you are having, but my experience with celexa was similar. For the first few days after each time I increased the dosage I would be really really anxious and just bad feeling. My doctor told me to try to just wait it out and it would subside, and it did slowly get better and better. In the end, the celexa helped me a lot. So it could be a similar situation for you where it will improve. I hope you feel better soon.

I took 1/2 of a 5mg Lexapro before going to bed, at 3am I was up walking the floor and had one of the worst anxiety feelings of my life.  I threw the script away, called the doc and told him no way would I take this.  It seems that I can't take any anti-depressant, anxiety meds that mess with the seratonin in my brain.  I just refuse anti-depressants when the doc wants me to take them.  I take the generic Xanax twice a day,.05mg, and stop at that.  I tryed Efexor and Paxil which had the same results.  Wish you luck.

:-)  Hi thanks for the responses, it really seems to be so individual, i lowered my lexapro back down and will try that for awhile, messing with drugs is not easy and I personally feel NOONE really knows what to tell you once you have problems, so just best to try on your own to regulate, while under the care of a Dr. though. Again Thanks for responses!!

DG,  I have been on Zoloft off and on for about 10 years now. I am just starting back on it for about the 4th time now, 7 days in. I have all of the same symptoms, but there is one thing I heard, and I try and tell everyone who has a problem with the start up side effects, especially the increased anxiety/panic attacks. There is a psychiatrist that stated "if anxiety does briefly get worse at the start of treatment with an SSRI, this can be a good sign that the depression and anxiety will ultimately respond well to the treatment." So please don't give up, give it some time. Ask your doc for some xanax or ativan to help you with the side effects you are experiencing. Alot of doctors already know to do this in the beginning, but some don't. It really does help. That's what i'm doing, and I have very minimal side effects at this point. The side effects are at their worst for like the first two to three weeks and then they start to subside. Good luck with your journey, and God bless! Fox
