getting off effexor 75mg

Hello everybody, it's been a while since I post here altough I am usually at the chat, I was diagnosed with a mild depression and anxiety disorder about a year ago, I started taking effexor XR75mg daily and today my dr said I was ready to go to half the dose for a month.  I expressed my concern about weaning off with everything that I have heard about withdrawal symptoms.  Altough I feel very good I am scared of the decision of getting off the meds.  If anybody has successfully getting off, or experienced any symptoms that might help me feel a little more confident about tomorrow please do so... I am worry that my studies will suffer because of this but I am also sure that I want to be med free. Thank you

cln, When I tapered myself off of Zoloft a few times, I did it VERY slowly. I take it down by quarters, not halves, and I stay on that for 2 weeks, then go down another quarter, for two weeks and so on. Then at the end I take the smallest dose every other day for 2 weeks,. For instance, I was on 50 mg. So for 2 weeks i took 37.5, then I took 25 for 2 weeks, then 12.5 for 2 weeks. and then 12.5 every other day for 2 weeks. You still get some side effects, but they're not too bad if you do it slowly. That would be my advice to you. Hope this helped you a bit. Good luck! Fox

Hi

I have weaned of Effexor and it does need to be done very slowly to avoid withdrawal effects and should be done under supervision of a doctor. Some people do experience withdrawal and others do not I hope it goes well for you and keep us posted.

I had the same experience as Ben.  I came off the Effexor pretty easily.  I prepared for the worse and was lucky to have the weaning process go smoothly.  I weaned of 150 mg in 3 weeks time.

Thank so much for your help, amazingly this morning when i went to the pharmacy to pick up my medication I got excited to finally start getting off of it and start feeling better, my therapy has helped me much too and I will keep posting to let you all know my progress thank you again.

so far, nothing major, just a little dizzy and anxious....so I am happy that I am getting off the medication

One more day and I am still feeling dizzy and anxious due to me medication adjustment but Im hanging in there...I can do this!

I am having a similar problem that I just posted a thread about. Been taking Xanax for only 2 weeks and want to stop taking it but am scared because of everything I have read. Not sure what to expect and don't know what to do
