Hi all!
I am currently being treated for GAD/Panic/Hypochondria. My GP recommended that I start therapy and medicine treatments starting a week ago. I saw my psychologist and we're getting along pretty well, have massage therapy (structural integration) once a week to look forward to, and my GP prescribed Effexor XR 37.5 once a day, moving up to 75 mg starting this week.
I had a couple of questions on this that I wanted to see if anyone had any experience with this drug and the situations.
I used to be on night shift (10pm to 6am), so I started a week ago to take my pill at 7:30pm as my panic attacks would usually come on around 6 or 7 pm. However, I recently switched back to a second shift schedule (2pm to 10pm) at the insistence of my doctors. Now that I actually try and sleep during the night, I'm finding that the Effexor at 7:30pm is preventing me from sleeping (heart palpitations, fuzzy head, tingling in legs and head, and just plain being wired). I would like to switch the dose to the morning or early afternoon (so as to still catch the panic at 6 or 7). Have any of you gone through this before? Have you found the best way to be missing a dose and then take it when you want, or taking the normal dose at 7:30pm and then again when I want to switch the dose too?
My second question: did any of you find the 37.5 mg of Effexor XR to be enough? I'm nervous about
switch on to the higher dose because the side effects of just getting on to this dose were so horrible (and I've heard how tough it is to get off of it). I lost 20 lbs in 2 weeks from not eating, or eating and vomiting, diarrhea, tingling head, insomnia, heart racing... you name it! I'd like to suggest to my GP (or to a new psychiatrist that my psych department recommends) that I stay at the 37.5 dose for a bit.
Thanks very much for sharing your stories with me! These past couple days have been made bearable by knowing that other people out there were going through the same things.
