Took .5 of Klonopin at 10:15 AM, is it ok to have one beer tonight??

Hey everyone,

I had a little anxiety attack and needed to calm down since something was bothering me and I was at school so I took a .5 of Klonopin (my 1st one in about 10 weeks) which is prescribed to me to calm myself down at 10:15 AM. Tonight my friends want me to go out for a drink, I would be the designated driver so I would only have one beer. This would probably happen later on tonight. If I was to be the designated driver is it ok to have one beer after taking the klonopin this morning or should I stick with non-alcoholic beverages tonight?? Keep in mine I'm 5'11" and 200 lbs so I'm not small. I just don't want to do anything that harms my health.

I'd say skip the alcohol and go for the non alcoholic beverage. Reason being is that alcohol intensifies the effects of the klonopin, and since it is a long acting benzo, you might get a little too tipsy to be the designated driver, even though it is only 1 beer.

That's just my opinion, and what I would do if I was in your shoes. I'm not sure what other advice you will get, but this is mine. ;)

Hey there,

Clonazepam has an unusually long elimination half-life of 18–50 hours, making it generally considered to be among the long-acting benzodiazepines. To be on the safe side I would stick to non-alcoholic beverages.

Enjoy your role as the designated driver.  Just being with good friends is usually a good time.

I just want to add that I am beyond impressed...blown away actually to see such a responsilbe attitude as the one that you are diplaying!

Accountability like yours is hard to find in people not only your age...but people many years your senior.

Thank-you for not only respecting and protecting yourself, but the others that you may encounter tonight.

Thanks Scaredy Cat!!! I'm not gonna be stupid with my body nor my health. i got too much good going on to harm myself in any way. Besides, that's what non-alcoholic beer is for lol :)

Yes I think it's good to be questioning it. I don't know much about klonopin but think it's a benzo like xanax, which I am on. I have taken xanax then had some beer but I was never a designated driver. Better to be cautious I guess.
