Hey everyone,
So I have this problem that I'm facing. Whenever I have to get up in front of people, I always get really anxious and nervous and end up having the urge to poop. I'm assuming this is all caused by the anxiety (it happens when there's an upcoming event as well, whether it's good or bad). My biggest fear right now is graduation. I have my graduation ceremony tomorrow and I'm really afraid of having an accident when i'm walking in or in line to receive my diploma because yesterday when I had practice for graduation, I had the urge then and started freaking out thinking I wasn't going to make it, and this was just in front of my own class. I don't want to have to deal with this tomorrow as there will be 3,000+ people there and embarrassment is the last thing I want on my graduation day. Any ideas on how I could deal with this and not be worried about
an accident or having the urge? I also think I have IBS so idk if that plays a role in it at all or not.

Hi and welcome.
First of all, congradulations graduate! That is great, and you should be proud of your achievement.:)
IBS does tie in with anxiety, and you are not alone in having this issue. Many people have this problem, and it also can be somewhat related to social anxiety which could also be factoring in for you as well.
For tomorrow in the short term, you can try some positive visualiztion...imagine the whole graduation ceremony going great, with no anxiety or urges. Imagining good things sets us up for success.
Also check out our Resource Guide for some links that teach breathing and relaxation exercises. These can help you to feel less nervous, and in control for any event.
For the future, you may want to talk to your doctor about
this, so that you can discuss other possible treatments for the long-term . Therapy and/or medication work for many people to help them manage their anxiety.
Post anytime with us, and let us know how your day went okay?
Talk to you soon,

Thanks scaredy cat! I will try to imagine it going well and i'm probably going to explain the situation to one of the school officials and see what they say. And I'll definitely post an update on how it went and I think I will talk to my doctor about
it next time I go in.

Everything went pretty well today. A lot better than I was expecting at least. My stomach was a bit jumpy feeling and I was feeling anxious when we were waiting in line for the time to come to start, but once I was in my seat I was fine and able to calm down. Only time I felt I had to go was when I was just about
to walk in, but my bigger fear of the urge while waiting in line was non existent

Thanks. And it's good to know I'm not the only one that has to deal with this.
