Buspar success?

Well here I am, I am glad I found this community. My daughter is 15 and has been diagnosed with Major Depression Disorder.. however her main complaint is panic attacks. They put her on zoloft 10mg she had a horrible RXN to it. She was on it for 3 wks b4 they realized that her symptoms were an allergic rxn..they took her off.. it took 3 wks for the FX to go away   Then they wanted to put her on effexor xr.. after reading and looking it up I refused to allow this to be the 2nd choice of meds for her, I didn't get a good response from the doctor by this decision, in fact it was sarcastic to say the least. But I stood my ground. We talked to her pediatrician, she put her on bc because of her periods.. she said of course she will experience depression she has severe pms.. her hormones are all out of whack! Let's straighten out her hormones and go from there, we have lots of options, I also want her on vitamins and on and exercise regimen (to release endorphones not for obesity, she's got a j-lo body lucky girl!).  So we went and asked about using an alternative med... it was not a receiving suggestion by the dr.. but she agreed to treat just her anxiety considering she has panic attacks on almost an hourly basis and we ran all other medical tests with pediatrician to determine it wasn't medical...My daughter said "I get sad, I have bad days but the depression isn't bad, it's the panic attacks I can't deal with :("

 

So I agreed to try buspar or busporine (sp?), I read up on it and it seems to be a relatively safer drug than the alternatives... Has this been successful for others? Especially this age?

Oh she also has started suffering from sleep paralysis... is this typical with anxiety attacks?

I've taken Buspar for about 6 months in the past. It worked for my anxiety/panic, it took about 2 weeks for its full effect. But everyone is different. As stkitt said, it is not approved for someone under 18, so I would discuss it with the doctor.

i take Buspar - i used to be on 5 mg twice a day but my doc just told me to take it 3 times a day
i switched to Lexapro and i had a weird reaction too - after 2 weeks of trying it - i decided to give up because it makes me nervous and then i noticed it was making my blood pressure go up. not sleeping good either.

buspar twice a day didn't do the trick but i asked my doc if i should double my dose or take 3 times a day and he prescribed 3 times a day. hope it helps. it makes me feel kind of dizzy or spacy for about 15 minutes after i take it but tolerable.

I have severe panic disorder and depression. A few years back, I was put on Buspar at one point. They said it wouldn't have rarely any side effects, probably none, except nausea. They gave me a half dose to start with. I took it that very afternoon.

Well something totally went wrong, and I've never had any bad reaction to any meds before.

#1. It seemed like I became childlike. I was 20 years old at the time, and I went on my front lawn and was rolling around in the leaves like a little kid.
#2. It increased my sexual desires like crazy.
#3. I felt as high as a kite, and it was too much for me.

I took it for a few days but had to stop. I never got any nausea, but the side effects that I experienced were far too much for me. I'm sure some drug addict would of enjoyed that kind of side effects, but not me. Everyone has different side effects, though. It just didn't work for me with those wild side effects, however, it did stop anxiety. It made me feel like nothing mattered at all and I was invincible, which probably wasn't good.
