Whonow,
To answer your question regarding A/D meds and St John's Wort.
I believe that one has to do what is best for ones's self in regards to mental health. If you and your doctor feel that you need medication to feel your best, then you should by all means take it. If you needed a medicine to fix a physical problem, you would certainly take it...this is no different.
Are there other things to be tried as well? Absolutely! Therapy should always be part of a recovery treatment in my opinion.
I actually tried therapy first, with the option of getting on medication after, if I still needed help. Turns out the therapy was sufficient for me and my issues...but everyone is different, so some may benefit from both...and that is great to have those options, right?
As far as the natural suppliments...they can be great...but proceed with caution. Natural does not always mean safe! You would be wise to check with your doctor before starting on an herbal, to check for interactions. I know that you should not do both a prescription A/D with St. John's Wort for example...so always let your doctor know what you are thinking about taking.:)
I hope that gives you some ideas on how to proceed with your treatment...but remember, these are only my opinions...and you need to make the informed choice for yourself with the help of your doctor.
Good luck and keep posting.:)
