Hello,
I have horrible anxiety and am now taking 1mg of Klonopin a day, which is not enough for me to feel normal. My doctor wants to drop my dose down to half a pill a day and this scares me too death because the 1mg isn't even enough, it helps yeah but I can tell i need more, maybe 2 a day would be great. I am going to Mountain Comp where they specialize in this and see what they think I need in order to be better, all I want is to be me again. I had a nurse tell me Zoloft is good and when I expressed my concern about the weight gain Ive heard that comes with it she said actually Zoloft and Prozac can help you lose weight because it decreases your appetite. Does anyone know of anything info or experiences that might help me? Does Zoloft help with anxiety? I have tried Celexa and it was a mess. I was throwing up and not sleeping and horrible thoughts.

Hi
Good to meet you. I have never taken Zoloft but have taken similar ssri's and have found them to help me with symptoms of anxiety unfortunately they all come with side effects so it is a personal choice weather to take them or not. Have you ever looked into doing therapy?

I took it in '02-'03 for depression and anxiety. It didn't help my depression, but did help the anxiety. I don't remember why we stopped it...yes I do. We transferred from socal to the east coast. So the new doc changed it.

Hi there,
I have been on zoloft for 5 days now, and I have been anxiety free since I started. I have no side effects that are so bad I would complain - ie: my jaw feels stiff sometimes, but then this is better than cracking it frequently in an effort to relieve tension..which is what I was doing. I feel drowsy at times, but nothing too bad..most of the time I feel full of life, and I cant get over how good I feel.
As for putting on / loosing weight - like all the other possible symptoms, it depends on the individual and how the drug interacts with you..everyone finds it different I guess. Food has appealed more to me of late all right, so maybe weight gain will be an issue for me, nothing major though.
Then maybe this is a good thing as I had lost so much weight being a nervous wreck all the time.
I have become the curious, inquisitive, observant, want to know more about everything person I used to be, and less engrossed and obsessed with my anxiety symptoms. Give it a try, you will only know for sure by trying it out yourself. Dont despair if it doesnt work out, it can take people a long time to find what is right for them. good luck.

Hi Helpless
Zoloft certainly helped me but as the other have said different meds work differently on different people. I'm only on a fairly low does of zoloft (50mg) and didn't experience any major side effects. I did have weight loss but it seems to have stabilized.
I hope you start to improve soon :)

Hey, thanks for all the reply's. Did the Zoloft help with anxiety? I talked to my therapist today and she told me Klonopin can cause problems with the brain if taken long term. I take that as a hint they want to get me off it. I only take 1mg daily so I don't understand how it can hurt me. It took me a while to find something that helps me and I don't understand why they would want to change it. Also, if people with seizures take it for life, how can it be so bad? I took Celexa and it almost killed me, now I'm scared of any anti-depressants. They have told me I have generalized anxiety, so why would I need a depression pill? I don't have depression.

Your therapist might be concerned about the dependency issues associated with benzodiazapines. Often, drugs in this classification are prescribed as only temporary, or for 'break through' panic issues along with an SSRI.
I understand your fear of starting a new medication. Many of the A/D meds are designed for both issues, because the way that they work with the neurotransmitters in the brain, treats both. So maybe thinking of it not as 'one or the other' type of med...but as something that will just help your anxiety will ease your tension.
I hope that you can get the answers that you need soon. Keep an open dialogue with your doctor and voice your concerns. It often takes a few tries to find what works for you.:)

I just rememberd that some members have used Buspirone (Buspar) to treat their GAD...here is something I pulled up on it. You may want to look into this med/discuss with doctor.
Buspirone. This anti-anxiety medication may be used on an ongoing basis. As with most antidepressants, it typically takes up to several weeks to become fully effective. A common side effect of buspirone is a feeling of lightheadedness shortly after taking it. Less common side effects include headaches, nausea, nervousness and insomnia.

Hi, I was scared to start a new med too. I didnt have depression either, not at all -so at first didnt know why I was prescribed zoloft.. decreased levels of serotonin can lead to anxiety as well as depression.. some people get both or just one or the other.. Zoloft is also suposed to work on OCD, I dont know how, and I dont have OCD, but I was thinking obsessively about my anxiety symptoms and if I was going crazy or not (which was driving me crazy) anyway, my second week on zoloft now and I do no longer obsess about these things, havent felt anxious, I am not feeling doped up, slowed down, physically or mentaly, (btw I have always been a poor speller!)
I do hope you find what works again

Thank you all so much for replying. I am thinking about zoloft a lot lately. I may just give it a try. I tried buspar once and threw up like I was on the worst drunk ever! I don't like to take it since then. I am thinking about trying it again as well cause I heard it takes 2 weeks to help. I do know the feeling of obsessing over if ur going crazy because of anxiety, I do it all the time, it makes my anxiety worse but I can't stop it.

Yeah, you need to find a med that works for you with the minimum amount of side effects possible. This can be trial and error, and can take awhile...but if you hang in there, you will hopefully find the one that will help you to feel better soon.:)
Good luck and keep us posted,

Hi and welcome.
I am sorry to hear of your mother's problems. She has been given a full physical evaluation, just to rule out any health related issues hasn't see? Is her BGL (blood sugar) in a healthy range?
As far as a medication for her goes...there is not a one size fits all for anyone. A/D meds need to be given a trial by the endivdual patient, as they react differently on different people. Her doctors will help her to make the best choice for her. You can help by asking her how she is feeling (physically and emotionally) with whatever medication(s) she tries, and maybe start a journal for her, so that it is all in writing...to better help her and her doctors know what it working and what isn't...if it caused side effects, ect.
I wish you both the best, and invite either of you to post with us anytime. It is important to have support from those who understand!
