I just started Sertraline which I think is generic Zoloft for anxiety. My doc. has me starting on 25mg the first week then 50 then after until the next visit. I haven't seen much in the way of side effects...it's only been three days...but I have had some very mild nausea and definite insomnia. I was having insomnia before but this one was different. Everytime I closed my eyes last night I would get this like headrush and I couldn't get to sleep until around 4a.m. I have a wedding to go to on the day that I start taking a regular dose and am a little nervous because the wedding's about 45 minutes away almost in the next city and someone else is driving...what can I expect in the way of side effects once the dose increases? Should I go to the wedding? Anyway ever get those headrush things when trying to go to sleep?

How about waiting just one more day to start the full dose. Meds effect everyone differently. You honestly can not go by what another has experienced. Wait and see how it is going and consider that 1 extra day before you start full dose.
Be kind to yourself. This is not about pleasing anyone but you, and making YOU feel better.

Good luck with the new med. It's always stressful trying something new. For me, I know that one side of me is sick and tiered of where I'm at, and I want change....but another side is so afraid of yet another side effect.

I understand your fear on this! Very valid!

One day is not a big deal.

I agree with Lindamine. I've been on sertaline for a while now. I don't think putting off the higher dose for a day or two will matter in the long run. If you're really concerned ask your dr. or local pharmasist. they should be able to help.
I have the same problem with it keeping me awake. I try to have my dose at lunch time preferably before 2 pm other wise I know I'll be up till the wee small hours. When I started back on the sertaline I got those little head rushes too but they went after a couple of weeks. I'm on 50 mg and I haven't had any major side effects. Try to make it to the wedding if you can. It's always good to have a little victory. And if you can't that OK too, as long as you're not the bride/groom then that could be an issue :)

Thanks Lindamine and belleadonna I think I will hold off on upping the dose for an extra day even though I'm really nervous about the wedding. There is an after party later that night that I've been invited to but I'm not going...I'd be anxious the entire weekend before during and after the party. At least at the wedding for the most part I just have to watch and listen : )

Good morning!

I have been on sertraline for a month now and during the first few weeks I felt very similar to how you are feeling. I COUL NOT sleep at all the first week due to the head rush feeling and I felt wired all the time. I was also ridiculously sweaty all the Tim's. I had some pretty severe panic attacks as well.

Once I got through 1 1/2 weeks though I started to feel a lot better! I haven't had to take Xanax for almost 2 weeks now! Once it starts working, this truly is a great medicine. You just have to get through that first couple weeks!

I would definitely wait a day to up your dosage! I would try to go to the wedding, but I completely understand if you can't! I had to skip out on a friend's bachelorette party the first weekend I was on it, because I just felt so anxious. It definitely helps if you can spend a day at home on the couch relaxing!

I wish you luck with the medicine and hope you start feeling worlds better soon!

I'm really nervous about doubling the dose this weekend. It took me forever to start the medication because I was nervous about that but this new doctor's pretty nice and doesn't act hurried. He also talked with me more so I agreed to try it even though I was scared out of my mind. So, I'm hoping this medication works.

I just started my Sertraline (generic Zoloft) tonight...I am nervous tho but can't imagine having side effects yet...it must all be in my head...ha I just want to feel normal again too without having to take clonozepam for backup....Wish me luck as I wish you all luck....so glad I found this forum

Well, it's day ten for me. The first seven days, I took 25mg of Sertraline. I was so nervous that I thought I was having side effects 30 to 60 mins. after taking the drug. It was just anxiety though. Noticeable side effects the first two days: a little nausea... not too bad...and a slight nauseous(sp?) feeling throughout the day. Then the first or second night, I started having these kind of mind zaps everytime I closed my eyes at night until I got so sleepy around 3 (I think) then I finally fell asleep. Afterwards on day 3, I didn't really notice too mamu side effects until two days after uping the dose to 50mg which happens to be today. I felt so drowsy and my mind had these kind of mind blur moments which I can't explain. It reminded me of when I had to be a sleep for a procedure...it's that moment where the meds. begin to work but you're still more or less aware of your surroundings but your reality starts to get a bit fuzzy.

PinkSkyCloud...do you think you will stick with the Sertraline? I think I will just stay on the 25mg unless it doesn't do anything for me....that is what I was on before...50 seemed to be too much.

Well, I think I'll stick with it for now. The side effects are weird but not too scary and it seems to be getting better. I still felt extremely sleepy today but I only had one maybe two of the mind blur moments. I just don't feel the meds working yet but I hear it's going to take a bit longer for them to start working.

Day three for me and a little nervousness but doing okay...one minute I feel fine the next I think oh no I can't take this....but all in all I am doing okay I think....just going to work is kind of hard and trying not to think of it there....Thanks...

It's day 12 and I've felt pretty tired most of the day and like I don't want to do anything so I have to really make myself do it. I was only extremely sleepy for about 2 or 3 hours today. There was also a moment when I felt a little speeded it up like I had had one of those caffeinated beverages and it was just starting to kick in then I felt tired and that has continued until now. No pain or severe symptoms of n e kind except for being extremely tired. Even the nausea went away and that went away on day 3 if I remember correctly. I'm stilling feeling anxious and still have my OCD symptoms so nothing working yet.

Well they told me between 3-8 weeks for full results...so keep on going...that's what my sisters tell me...Hope your night is good!

Well I am here at work today and it is day 4 on the zoloft...I actually can feel the lessening of anxiety but I think I just keep thinking so much about it that I make myself feel scared now.....this morning when I got here I did stand up quickly to get something off the printer and heat went thru my whole body and I thought I was going to pass out.....I got so scared and I just fanned my self and put my head down my dear friend got me some sprite and crackers and I am fighting back to normal now...feeling good enough to type this....I guess that is normal in the start up phase....mornings are the struggle for me....I just hope I can keep going .... hasn't been to bad tho really just this morning....I am feeling quiet nauseaus....my therapy session is at 4 today so I am looking forward to that....

Day 13 is pretty good. I'm extremely tired. People are starting to wonder how come I keep yawning so much. A co-worker asked me if I had accidently taken NyQuil again. That's what I told them earlier this week when it first started to kick in. I didn't want to tell anyone I was taking sertraline. Does anyone else tell others about their meds? Anyways that seems to be the only symptom except for the butterflies in my stomach/throat...I don't know how else to explain it. It's not a bad feeling just weird.

Well I just woke up from falling asleep early in a full panic attack...threw up and thought I was gonna pass out...still shaking but took my clonozepam real quick....I am just now since 830 starting to feel better....this was not a good day for me....I am feeling really dizzy and nauseous...I actually felt like I was really dying...my therapy session earlier was great tho....when I left there I had so much hope...guess I will just keep on trucking along....i might stay home from work tomorrow...a three day off rest would probably help me...Thanks for listening...my husband is snoring away got a hand towel drenched with ice cold water around my neck...I hate this...
