wondering about lexapro

I began with 10mg of Lexapro. It made me feel very jittery in the morning. The feeling was sort of like I had drank ten cups of coffee -- but was still tired. It was quite uncomfortable. I then reduced to 5mg, and the side effect went away. BUT -- you should understand that everyone is impacted differently. So your mom may not have the same side effects I did. She may have different ones. Or none at all. If I had it to do over again, I would have began with 5mg and then worked my way up, to the extent necessary.

I tried lexapro and was taken up to 15 mg. I felt nothing and was moved to another medication. It sounds like some sort of therapy or family counseling may help the situation more than meds.

In Australia, Lexapro is the most widely given SSRI. I was given Aropax (Paroxetine) which is a bit of an older one and it had so many side effects that I eventually weaned myself off it. It kept me up all the time even though my dosage was one first thing in the morning.

It is more common to be given 10mg than 20mg though, I've found (I'm a Pharmacist), but a lot of my patients report that they find it keeps them up moreso than it helps them sleep due to stress.

I've been on lexapro for about 1 year. 10mgs per day. It works great on me. I'm less sensitive. Less angry. Much better coping skills. It's also great for pre menstrual syndrome. My periods are off the charts with emotion and pain.

I had another talk with my mum and she said her dr. suggested it because she was feeling very run down and lethargic and thought it might be connected to mild depression. she's had blood tests to see if it was physical but nothings shown up yet. I also mentioned about seeing a therapist. Our family has been through a lot in the last few years. Her husband (my father) and her father have both passed away after illness which have both taken their toll plus the usual family stresses. I'm hoping she'll take up my suggestion.
