Anyone whos disorder is so bad they can't work???

Hi

I am just curious if anyone has this condition so bad that they are unable to hold a job? I for one have been a stay at home mom for years now, but every job I have had before I being a stay at home mom ended because of my anxiety, some even ended with trips to the hospital because I thought I was dying...I have tried taking temp jobs here and there over the past few years and end in the same result.

My panic disorder has taken over my life, I have heard that there is Social Security that one can receive if they have panic and anxiety disorders? Does anyone know if this is true? I'd love to be able to turn my life around and have a job to help support my family but until I can get the help I need, if it's a possibility to receive some financial help that would be wonderful. If not we will keep chugging along as we have been.

for a long time my anxiety was so bad I could even get a job let alone keep one. I live in Australia and could get government assistance to keep me going. I started to build my confidence about working by starting with volunteer work just so I could get used to going out regularly for extended periods of time and build up my resume. It took a while but I eventually got back into work. It wasn't easy but it can be done :)

Thank you all for the response. I am glad I am not alone in this..because I seem to feel like I am always the "only one". I use to have a job working at home, but it was working on the phone and it just didn't pan out having little ones running around, not to mention my babysitter I had hear while I was at work in the basement ended up moving. I wonder if there are other legit work at home jobs out there. They are really hard to find.

I could look into assistance, the worst they can do is deny me. :)

im sorry we all have to deal with this. its just not fair. I want to feel and live a normal life like most people. I just hate all of it. I hate even worse that when I try to talk myself out of an attack and stay positive that it never works for me.

I am currently having issue with working and think that I will be made to leave very soon. We need me to have some sort of money from me so I am not sure what to do. I do not know if I would qualify for any disabillity or not either. I will be very interested if you find anything out.

Hi...You certainly are not alone.  I am 66- years old.  I worked full time until I was around 55.  I was so good at hiding my anxiety, but of course it was killing me.  I finally was diagnosed with GAD in 1995, on disability for a year, and went back to work as a medical transcriptionist.  I did well again until changes started occuring in the work place, new management, etc.  (My previous employment was for 23 years in a hospital,but due to downsizing, my job was eliminated and went to work for another company and that was in 1995 when I realized I had anxiety, and started on medication).  A long story short, I went back to work in 1996 and worked until 2002 when I had a meltdown, off for several months, went back again in 2003 and finally crashed again.  I know how debilitating it can be.  I became agoraphobic and did not want to leave the house.  I applied for Social Security Disability in 2003 and finally was approved almost two years later.  I also was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2004 and underwent a left lower lobectomy, with removal of a nodule that was cancerous.  I was blessed to have caught it early and did not require chemo or radiation.  I think having that diagnosis cinched it for me to be approved for Social Security Disability...It has been a long road, with many ups and downs.  I am on Paxil since 1995, tried different meds, but this was the only one I could tolerate.  I also supplement with lorazepam when my anxiety kicks in, but I am able to function very well most of the time.  I just have to keep myself busy and force myself to get up and get out to do things.  I pick up my granddaughter every day from school and watch her during her school vacations.  I believe her being born was what saved me, something to live for.  Anyway, I did manage to collect Social Security Disability, but now I am age 66, so it switched to regular Social Security.  Good luck.  Hope I have not written too much.
