Can anyone tell me abot Paroxetine?

Paroxetine is in the SSRI classification of A/D medications. Here are a few things that you may want to be aware of when starting this type of Rx.

SSRI's can take any where from, 4-12 weeks for the building up and leveling off process in the body. After this happens, one should have an idea of whether or not the med is working well for them.

Upon inital start up, anxiety symptoms can actually increase. This causes some individuals to abandon the medication. However, is one can push through the diffucult start, the long term benefits prove worth it.

Not everyone reacts in the same way with any given SSRI. Therefore your doctor will basically start you on one, which may or may not end up being the one that is right for you. Some people try several until they find what works for them.

However, thinking positive and expecting the best will go a long way in ensuring your success.;)  You  could respond very well to your first try!

On a side note...the Tramadone, (for pain management?) was it prescribed by the same doctor as for your Paroxetine? If not, be sure to ask about possible interactions between the two meds to be safe.

Thanks for the addtional information...and yes, as long as you have the same doctor that is prescribing, then you don't need to worry about accidental interactions, like you might if you had two doctors who were not aware of your other Rx's.

To answer your question...I don't believe that a medication can change, lower or help with stress. (this is just my opinion) What it can do is help to relieve your mind and body's reaction to the symptoms of anxiety.

To truly lower stress levels, I think that working in therapy, or a good self-help program is your best long-term anxiety managment choice. (again, my own opinion)

This is why so many people find a combination of therapy and medication beneficial. The meds can get you to a place of being able to work on the skills to lower anxiety...the two working in a positive cycle of healing.:)

I am on Paroxietine 40mg and have found it to be a ok med will take about 6-8 weeks before you feel the benefits.

I was prescribed 10mg of paxil in October, then 20mg in November. October to mid December were hell for me dealing with anxiety and side effects of Paxil...HOWEVER all is not lost, just before Xmas I started feeling better and the medication took hold and it was definitely worth the hassle and hell I went through for those 2.5 months. I've been back to work fulltime now. Anxiety doesn't rule my life anymore...but there are still some bad days thrown in every now and then, Just gotta learn to live and cope with it.

Thanks Oilslick! Did you happen to experience jaw clenching during this time? Anyway I guess I'll have to wait a while for the benefits.

what do you mean by jaw clenching? I did not notice anything, however, before being on paxil I would wake up with jaw pain, and the sensation of my jaw being locked down tight and shattering my teeth, I atribute that to anxiety though, since paxil I have not felt like that *knock on wood*

I was on Paxil for about 10 years. I took 20mg with 75mg Effexor and then upped to 30mg Paxil along the way. It stopped my Panic Attacks pretty good within a few weeks, but still had mild anxiety. Family Dr. added the Effexor, and it was like winning the lottery! I started feeling the Effexor working by brain and spine "cold chills" or tingles. BUT, both are notorious for weight gain and are have pretty bad discontinuation syndrome. I weaned off of the Paxil in a 4 week taper, but made myself take 6-7 weeks for the Effexor. I still had some anxiety/panic every blue moon, but they helped me alot. Sucks that they pooped out on me.

Yes, I took Paxil for 2 days only. I had the jaw clenching as one of my side effects which you mentioned. It's like once I 'force' open my mouth my jaw just clench back automatically. Wish you all the best! :)
