Oh yes!!!
Anxiety and depression often go hand in hand...absolutely!
For some the anxiety leads to depression. For others, the depression is more prominent, and can cause anxiety.
For others still, they bounce back and forth equally.
For me personally, I have the occasional low periods...everyone does, but my main issue is just anxiety.
However, when my anxiety was at its highest, I also suffered a profound depression, as a result of the loss of quality of life due to the A/P...and the utter exhaustion of it. (my symptoms were mainly loss of interest in things that I used to enjoy, and a hopeless feeling about
my situation.)
The good news though is that once I had the anxiety under control, the depression lifted.
You may find this to be the same, once you get to a stronger place with your anxiety issues.:)
You most likely will hear more from others with their expereinces.
You may also want to check in with the depression forum as well. I am sure that you will get a lot of input there as well!
Keep doing the things that you are doing to get well. Increase your coping mechanisms, even if it hard to do...stay connected with friends and family members! This will keep you from isolating, which is the worst thing that you can do. Reach out...you did so here...great job!!
Keep talking with us as well. We are here to listen, understand and care!

Mine started out with Anxiety and went into Depression. I had so much anxiety I was having nervous breakdowns and mental breakdowns because of what happened after I lost my job. They accused me of stealing (which I would never do) and I was questioned at the police station and arrested and I'm not even guilty. I didn't even have a record in the computer at the police station. My MD had never seen me in such bad shape. I wasn't to the point of suicide and my life means more to me than that. I am seeing a Psychologist weekly, going to support groups through church and one on one mentoring through church. I take Xanax and Zoloft and it has worked wonders.
Hang in there- Were all here to support each other

om that. Yes. A much different one then when I was 16-but yes. How can someone not be depressed when we want to live a free life-a life free of all these horrible symptoms we suffer. Not a medical professional-but when we arent living the life we know we can and are always fighting to live-it can take a toll. But theres awesome news about
that. We dont stay stuck forever. Just feels like it.
sorry-i ranted-to answer your question-how long does it last-or how long will it last for you. Probably not as long as it lasted for me-since you are seeking help just by being here.
Thoughts-some so scary at times. I am the farthest from being suicidal, but I had some dark thoughts enter my mind.I would never want to actually harm myself-but those little thoughts crept in once in awhile. Sometimes had to fight them so bad.Its much better now. What thoughts are you having.

Crap-first part of my response didnt get to you. I suffered a bad depression when I was near 16. Couldnt taste foodetc I didnt have anxiety and panic issues at the time-but they followed about
5 yrs later. They do walk hand in hand sometimes-but you found the right place to come to. Remember-it doesnt last forever. Good thoughts out to you.

Yes. Sometimes it's hard to tell which came first, the anxiety or the depression--but for me they are mostly flipsides of the same coin. The depression can be bad... I don't really describe it as sadness, but it's more just feeling empty and not wanting to do anything or see anyone, but the scariest thing, for me, is just not being able to enjoy anything at all. It's like a complete and total loss of interest in everything. The good news is that the depression always passes.

My depression was not long term but would come a day or two after a grand mall panic, I always
seemed very down on myself for letting my mind take over, it seems like this fight takes eternal
vigilance.
God Bless You All.

AF,
I don't have personal experience to share, but just wanted to say great job on getting the help that you need to feel better!
Viibryd is a fairly new drug (approv. 2011) and I have heard some good things...but you will just need to see how you respond to it, to know for sure if it is beneficial for you.
I wish you the best, and a home run on this first try!!:)
Keep us posted,
S.C.
