Withdrawal from Zoloft and Paxil

I was on paxil for 7 months. for my anxiety Gained alot of weight, I was always thin but this medication put 30lbs on me. I couldn't stop eating! I was getting some side effects such as irregular heartbeats and insomia. The doctor switched me to zoloft. I was on that for 1 month. I got side effects from that also, I was getting cystic acne and was also having problems with my stomach. I have stopped zoloft over 2 weeks ago. I have been going through alot of withdrawal symptoms. I get very dizzy, feel confused, very very edgy, cry at the drop of a hat. I feel like I am going crazy. I haven't lost any weight yet. I am so blown up. I am glad to go off this medication. I feel it really ruined me and gave me anxiety due to the weight gain.

Can anyone tell me how long the side effects last?? Also, how long does it take for the weight to start to come off. I am so upset everyday over this weight gain!!!!

Hi Brownie and welcome!

I am sorry to hear of your Rx trouble. I was hoping someone with practical experience could help you (I have not taken A/D meds)...keep checking as I am sure someone will respond soon.

I can only encourage you and recommend checking out this site. I know that is has some helpful information on weaning offf of A/D meds.

Hi

Good to meet you but sorry to hear of your circumstances I know how hard it is two come of these types of medication. I am currently withdrawing from Paroxetine (Paxil) which I was on 40mg and replacing it with Cymbalta and my head is all over the place.

Paroxetine is known as the hardest to come of and as with all these medications needs to be done very slowly with supervision of a proc.

With regards to the weight it should start to come of quite quickly as long as you exercise I know this from my own personal experience. I put on a lot of weight on Effexor and lost 2 stone when I stopped tasking it so I am sure things will work out for you.

Thank you for your feedback. I have been dieting and also exercising every day. Weight is not budging, if anything I seem to be more bloated. I have cut back a lot on my eating. I am so frustrated over this weight gain. Not only do I hate looking at myself in the mirror, I feel so uncomfortable with this extra weight. My boyfriend keeps telling me to give it time, but of course I want it to happen yesterday - lol. I am suffering with a lot of side effects from going off medication. I just want to feel myself again, and get my body back!

You will get it back! Have faith, keep up the tough work of weaning, and continue your exercising and sensible eating.

To kickstart your metabolism, you may want to try a new form of exercising. Perhaps a Zumba class, or swimming or biking if you are not used to doing these activities.

You may also want to alternate cardio with strength training. The more muscle mass the body carries, the more calories are burned, even at rest.

Give your body complex carbohydrates, lean protein and all of the fruits and veggies that you like.;)

You will see changes soon if you follow this regimine!
