Paroxetine (Paxil) Withdrawal Syndrome

Hi All

Hope you are all well? Sorry I have not been around on the forum much lately I have had a lot on but will try and check in more often.

I am currently the first week into discontinuing Paroxetine 40mg and changing to Duloxetine. I have done a few changes over the years and they are always difficult but I can honestly say this is by far the worst I am feeling awful at the moment and not sure I am going to be able to do the change?.

I am in close contact with my pdoc and GP who are both excellent and very supportive so in good hands but was wondering if anyone else had done this change over or withdrawn from Paroxetine?. I will be doing this change over very slowly but any input would be appreciated.

I hope you will not have a hard time of this. I'm very interested in this thread and what others with experience with Paxil withdrawal will have to say about it. My son is now beginning to wean from Paxil and he's having a very hard time with it...I would like to know how long the withdrawal symptoms last. I hope you will get many responses. Good luck to you and hope you will keep us posted on your progress. Joni

I am currently weaning off meds. I was on paxil (generic brand) for 8 months then they switched me to zoloft for one month. I was having to many side effects from meds. I weaned for 1 week, then stopped medication. I have been going through alot, dizziness, very nauseaous, edgy, flu like symptoms, very tired, brain zaps. It has been 3 weeks since I stop meds, but trying hard to hang in there! I hope this all goes away very soon!

Hey B;)

Know that we are cheering you on. Changes are always difficult, but I know that you can do this.

You are a strong person, who has faced challenges before and you will come through this one just as well.

Keep in mind that these feelings are temporary and will come to an end. It is hard to let that be much comfort when you want and need to feel better now...but remember the end justifies the means.

We are here supporting you 100% and then some more;p

Let us know how you are getting on.

Hey B,

Good to see you here and glad to help you out in any way that I can.

I was never on Paxil but did take it's sister drug last year and going on Zoloft  was a bear, coming off and switching back to Effexor  went well for me. 

I know you have had problems switching meds in the past as I have so please know I wish you a smooth transition.

What are your most concerning and debilitating withdrawal symptoms from weaning off of the Paxil? What dose are you down to and when do you start taking the duloxetine?

Hi

Thanks for your replies to my post and a big thank you to SC & Kitt my big sisters who I cal always count on.

Sklknmyst I have been getting flue like symptoms such as sweats during the day and awful night sweats that wake me up also aching joints and brain zaps. By the afternoons my anxiety is high and my sleep is not good maybe 2hrs a night at the moment.

I am on 30mg Paxil and 30mg Duloxetine at the moment my next change is on Thursday.
