has anyone gotten head pressure/swelling feeling along with a burning "fire" feeling on the head or brain? I've gotten burning elsewhere on my body too...

so anxiety can cause burning feeling on the brain? I had an mri already and nothing showed- that was 4 mths ago though

I've been dealing with the same thing on and off for over 2 years.  I had an MRI and CT Scan done on my brain 2 years ago, both came back fine.  I am told anxiety can cause all of these strange feelings in your head.  I've had bloodwork done which all comes back fine.  I have developed bad anxiety from this over the past 2 years and am on medication for the anxiety.  The head pressure I was learning to deal with for awhile until I recently over the past month or 2 started getting the pressure and almost like stabbing in my head.  I have always worried that I had brain cancer or an aneurysm.  My neuro. and every other doctor told me nothing can change that fast and it would have showed up on my MRI's that I had 2 years ago.  I try not to focus on it so much, but it is so hard. You are not alone, I wish I knew how to control it or get rid of it.  My family tells me i need to relax when I sometimes feel I am and can't seem to understand why I still feel this way.  Know that you are not alone with the head pressure, I just wish I knew how we could get rid of it or what the heck caused it to come on.

Great supportive response for your first post. I wish I had the magical answer for both of you but all I can offer id support and it you feel you need another MRI, do be firm with your physician and ask for what you need.

My neuro. last time I spoke to him told me he would be sending me for another MRI on my brain even though he doesn't feel it is necessary.  I have been fighting with him for this for months.  Since my bloodwork has come back fine, I am sure it is nothing serious going on really inside my head.  I too have been on the anxietycentre.com website and the "head symptoms" are very similar to what I have been experiencing which really makes me think alot can be coming from my anxiety and that there really is nothing else seriously wrong with me.  Anxiety can bring on crazy symptoms, aches and pains that you would never think.  If I had known back 2 years ago what I know now about it all, maybe I wouldn't have reacted the way I did when this all started and maybe things would be different for me.  I have a 6 year old daughter and a wonderful husband and have lost 2 years of my life that I cannot take back all because of my anxiety.  My family means the world to me and I just want to go back to being the "ME" again.  I don't wish this on anyone, but anyone that is dealing with anxiety or a panic disorder is the only one that would understand what it is like for one to go through.  Any "normal" person just tells you to knock it off...it's actually very scary.

Hello Kathy and welcome.

I am sorry to hear that you are suffering so.  I would be remiss in not giving you this information, since you mentioned thoughts of self-harm in your post.  I sincerely hope that  will reach out to someone and get the help that you need.

Have you consulted a doctor about you head pressure issues?  Have you received a diagnoses or help?  If it is anxiety related, have you tried medication and/or therapy?

There is hope in treating this disorder.  It may take some trial and error to find what works for you, but it can happen....I and many other members here are proof.

Please let us know how we can be of help and support.  We are listening and do care about you.  You have friends here now.

Anxiety medications can also cause this - had it severely until I stopped them

I'm so glad I found this forum!!!!!
I am 2 weeks+ postpartum with my second child and had Hyperemesis Gravidarum with this pregnancy. It has caused a sloo of issues, the number 1 being ANXIETY. I just recently experienced the burning skull sensation. I read in a previous post this could be due to meds. Yesterday was my first dose of meds and also the first time I had this sensation. Tonight I had it again just a few mins ago which prompted me to google it and I found this forum!!!

How often do you experience this??? I felt like my head was seriously on fire!! And of course that sent me into a panic and almost had an attack!!! What do u do to deal with this???

I have this same feeling! Burning in my head burning tingling over my body. Is this normal for anxiety?

Hello M.C. and welcome!!

I am sorry to hear that you are currently dealing with so much. It is scary and confusing dealing with anxiety and its symptoms, I know.

I do believe that your newer symptom, the burnig head sensation is one of two things. Either it is anxiety...and this is a fairly common complaint with those who suffer it...

...or it could be a side effect of your medication. This sounds likely, since in coincides with your start up.

I do not think that it is anything serious, or a problem with your brain...

...but do want you to call your doctor and let him know, since this could be related to your Rx...and it's important for your dr. to check and make sure that you are tolerating the meds you were prescribed.

I hope that you get the answers that you need soon, and that you are on your way to feeling better in no time.:)

I keep on having this happen to me also. I get dizzy and get a burning sensation from my neck and the front of my head in my brain. I am on Wellbutrin and I recently ran out of my Kolonopin. I was just sitting at my desk at work and out of knowhere this happens and I start sweating, my heart starts pounding, dizzyness, can't stand or see straight, and I feel like I'm going to pass out. I have not taken my wellbutrin for a few days because I accidentally mixed it with some Delsym because of a cold and I was worried about the drug interactions. Mixing these either caused me a an anxiety attack or a mild case of seratonin syndrome 3 days ago (I can't tell the difference) and I have not taken anything since. I have an appt with a psychiatrist in a few days so I hope I can hang on until then. It's a very scary feeling and it is affecting my sleep, job, family, and everything! I don't wish this on anyone and I hope it stops!

Hi, Im a 30yr old Female from central PA. I need advice and help please!!!!! I went to my doctor for some anxiety /stress from my workplace . After trying a few different psych meds the last being Zoloft i started getting severe burning and head pressure. .....like someone is heating steel rods and jamming them into my brain. .....i stopped all the meds thinking it will go away. ...its been 12weeks. ER 4 times. Doctors dont know what to do. They want to give me more psych meds but they caused the problem!!!! I should of never went to the doctor. Im in hell from the moment i wake up till i fall asleep. Lost my job. Cant function. ...lost my life because of these meds!!!!

I am sorry to hear of your complications form anxiety/meds.:(

Did you see a GP originally for your Rx's?

If so, I recommend a consult with a psychiatrist. This is a medical doctor, who will have the best knowledge of psychotropics and their effects.

A neurologist may also be a consult worth considering...

I hope you get the answers and help/relief you need soon!
