Does anyone else have difficulty with words and communication with anxiety?
I've been often using the wrong word (fill instead of feel, for example) when typing, or using the wrong tense of words. Sometimes, I'll look back at something I've written and it'll be a nonsensical jumble.
I looked at a note that I wrote to a friend recently, and I had written "he had covered eye stove" when I meant to say, "he had caught the stove eye cover on fire" - that's a BIG mess!
I do it when I'm speaking out loud, too.
This really, really, really bothers me. I've always been a stickler about
communication and proper grammar. It's a problem professionally, too. I'm a newspaper EDITOR.
I published a story recently that should have said, "A slow clap spread through the crowd." It actually said, "A slow crap spread through the crowd."
While I realize that's hilarious, it really bothers me.
Anyone else have this? Any tips?

Well I am glad that you can see the humor in that...cause it is pretty much a 10 on the funny scale...
...but I know that unintentional gaffs like this don't feel like a laughing matter...because of all the things that our anxious minds can conjure up to attach to it!
However, anxiety and being spread too thin with too much on our minds...as well as middle age...all can contribute to having the tendency to make mistakes.
Do you find that the goofs coincide with times of high stress or panic? The mind can only do so many things at once...and panic pretty much takes center stage and wipes out other non-essential elements to itself such as the grammatical arts!;p
If you are truly concerned that it could be something else...I suppose you could talk to your doctor about
a referral to a neurologist that could give you some cognitive tests...but I don't think that it is neccessary.
At this point, if no one else is noticing that anything is off, then you have nothing to worry about
.

No worries about
anything neurological, but that "is there any schizophrenia in your family?" keeps ringing in my head. In a few weeks, if I can manage not to miss any more work before then, I'm going to go to a mental health hospital here and have a total mental health screening - but I think it takes pretty much all day. My Pdoc says it takes seven years to diagnose a patient properly and I don't want that question in my head for seven years! lol She doesn't mind if I go elsewhere and continue therapy with her though, which is good, cuz I LOVE her.
Yes, though, it does coincide with days I'm particularly stressed. The same days I tend to have those long, long panic attacks. So, thank you, your explanation helps a lot!!!

Anxiety is so weird...
It manifests itself in so many different ways with different people!
For you, the fear of schizophrenia is in the forefront of your worries.
Me? I have never really worried about
having a mental illness...but if I do something like you described due to stress or a migraine, ect...
I immediately jump to medical issues like neurological disorders, brain tumors, you name it!
Fortunately (and unfortunately b/c it in itself is hard!) we are just dealing with anxiety here...
A little more relaxing, and a little less worry is in order for the weekend, right?

Honestly, I think being a chronically ill child helps me with the health anxiety if that makes any sense. I figure I can handle physical problems, since I spent much of my childhood in and out of the hospital, not allowed to go outdoors or near windows, etc. and on ridiculous amounts of medicines. (I'm still phobic of catheters and IVs, but otherwise. lol)
Mental illness scares me, because I think, "If it's too bad, I can't take care of myself! I'll be such a bother! Maybe I'm evil!" lol
Yes, definitely less worry and more relaxing is in order for the weekend.

Girl you crack me up, for anyone else to accomplish what you do on a given day they would need to be quadruplets!
Sometimes I say whole sentences in garble, when the family looks at me funny I say oh am I speaking in a foreign language again. They only understand Texan!
The only thing I'm afraid of is getting old, crap too late!!!!!!!!!!!!

Last weekend a friend and I went out to dinner. She asked me where I parked my car and my response was " I parked it on the sidewalk"! I was fighting a sinus infection that settled in my ears and was on many meds and was very tired from not sleeping. It's amazing what comes out of our mouths!

I don't have trouble with the written word, but I CANNOT speak clearly and make sense when I am having a panic attack. I actually started a thread about
that issue a couple of months ago. I simply cannot get correct words out of my mouth. They come out all garbled, or I use the wrong words for what I am trying to say. It scares the heck out of me. I mentioned it a few times to my doctor, but he didn't react much at all. People are starting to notice, and it just happened again today while talking to my neighbor. I try to 'cover', but it's getting obvious. I HATE anxiety!!

I get this sometimes as part of a migraine aura...it is a fairly common occurence with migraine sufferers...so you could cover and say that you may have a migraine coming on...
Or if you are uncomfortable with a fib, you could just say something like, "Sorry, I guess I have a case of stress brain today." until you can come up with the right word. Making light of the situation helps to difuse any awkwardness pretty well.;)

Wish I could say you on your own with this one but you aint as you can see,I made a vid the other day when I should've saud social media. I said social mederal. I had to lol at myself and sometimes I talk to fast and a gap be in my words sounds lije thththth,so we are both cool as heck and rock,and I have to go back over every word I type on here sometimes forgetting some&words sometimes if I don't watch this being a smat phone. Because words will start to look like this,(njt funny but finny)

Thanks for the advice...sounds like a good plan! Actually, interestingly I have a FIERCE migraine today (gotten them since childhood), so I have a foggy brain & it is similar to the anxiety feelings. No fun either way for sure. I appreciate your comment!

S.C. - I'm totes going to use the "sorry I've got a case of stress brain!" excuse, too. Most people don't know I have anxiety disorder, but a LOT of people tell me I need to slow down, so that will go over easy. :)

LHA - sorry to hear about
that migraine! I get a lot of fogginess with migraines, too. Luckily enough, I haven't been having too many of them lately. Hope you feel better soon.
