So, normally I am always wearing nail polish so I don't pay much attention to my nails. I have had some vertical ringing for a while now and was told it was nothing.

Anyway, I happened to be looking at them this morning and noticed that my nails are a pale color with a darker ring right under the part of the nail that grows past the finger. My nails are long and strong.

After googling them (wrong, I know), they are what they call "Terry's Nails". There are no benign causes. The main cause is liver disease or cirrhosis. I don't drink alcohol. My liver function has been off in the past, but has been normal for years. The other causes are hepatitis, renal failure, hyperthyroidism, and congestive heart failure.

I am not having any other symptoms relating to ANY of these conditions. I had lab work done a couple of weeks ago and it was all normal. Now I am TOTALLY freaking out!!!

I go to my primary doctor and gastroenterologist at the end of the month.

What am I gonna do??

It is going to be okay. Trust your lab results, not a random article that you read on-line.

Your labs were normal, and that is what you should focus on!:)

Go ahead and show your doctor at your next appointment, just for peace of mind...but for now, try not to give this anymore thought.

When you are hit with the worry about this, counter the fearful thinking with a postive mantra such as:

'My test results show that I am healthy, and I have not other symptoms to back up this worry. This is just anxious thinking.'

I read close to 30-40 websites that all say the same thing. What's even worse is that I am at work and now can't concentrate on anything.

I hate when I do this to myself. Now I am wondering how long I've had them...

I really, really hate this!

I know, it is scary and hard not to think about it...

...however, I have to kindly say that if you have looked at 30+ sites for this alone...it is safe to say that you have gotten yourself into a frenzy over it.;(

Stay off the google search...compartmentalize this until your appointment with your doctor, and keep reminding yourself that your labs were excellent!

LB, You just had lab work? don't do this to yourself, the websites
are full of wanna be pseudo scientists, there is nothing you can ask that they don't have a scary answer for. The only thing most of us use google for is spell check. Peace

I feel totally stupid obsessing about it, but I just can't help it. UGH!!

I actually think I've had it for a while, but never focused on it until today.

So I had to start googling the symptoms of every(bad)thing it could be and I don't have any other signs or symptoms of anything. I'm 36 and never really drank alcohol (I am emetophobic and terrified to vomit) so liver disease/cirrhosis is out, my kidneys are fine, and I have no signs of heart failure. The only thing I have symptoms of is hyperthyroidism and I just had my thyroid checked.

Of course, other than the recent onset of heart palpitations (PVCs). So, leave it to me to focus right on the possibility of congestive heart failure...

I came home and my husband instantly knew something was wrong, so I burst out in tears because I think there is something very wrong.

For now, I think I am gonna put some nail polish and try the whole 'out of sight - out of mind' motto. I don't know how we'll it will work, but at least I won't sit here staring at my hands.

If you have a tendency to be hyperthyroid watch what you eat, food high in iodine can make your thyroid gland become over active, if it does it can cause palps. I had a bad time with being hyperthyroid some years ago, it was treated with radiation and they killed too much, now I take one .137 mg of thyroid a day. Then the palps
could be come a trigger for an attack.

Anxiety and thryroid symtoms mimic eachother. If your thyroid test was normal...then you are surely just having anxiety issues.

I think that the nail polish trick is a great idea...I was going to suggest that the abnormalities that you noted could be from wearing the polish too long without letting your nails breath anyway...however I forget to type that in my last post...

Anyway, hang in there until your appointment, and keep posting. We will do our best to help you stay calm.;)
