I have posted about this before but really haven't gotten any responses. I am currently debating on whether to continue my effexor 75 mg for anxiety. Today would be day 4. I do not want to be ruled by chemicals but I'm sick of every time I get a pain or sick think I will die. For instance I am going on a 10 virus/ fever right now. My doctor said it was a viral syndrome . I have 2 lymph nodes in my neck that have appeared. Deep down I have convinced myself that its something terminal. I just work myself up and I just don't know whether to continue this medicine or to stop before it starts taking effect and I experience the real withdrawl effects if I try to stop. Any advice would be much needed and appreciated.

Maybe I have mono with no sore throat??

We're i come from we call the drug venlafaxine and it is sometimes used as an anti depressant and anti obsessive medication. We tend to use Prozac and sertraline. As with any medication talk to your doctor before you stop taking it. It so quite widely used

hi SMU,

i know the feeling of being rules by chemicals - I take quite a few medications. But these are taken to get better. your doctor is really the best judge. do you trust him or her? if you feel your doctor is competent and caring, i would go with his advice.

in case you go onto it and decide at some point, decide to go off it, your doctor can give you advice about how to taper off.

my own opinion is to give it a try. all you have to lose is your anxiety. it is easy to try and wish it away, but it doesn't work.

Your choice seems to be - give the medication a try - a fair try - and hopefully it will help you or choose not to take the medication knowing that your health anxiety is out of control.

I do take this med and it has pulled me from some very dark holes.  I know taking a chance scares you but sometimes it is the right thing to do as long as you keep an open mind and know that it may take 6-8 weeks to reach a therapeutic dose.

Thanks for all of,your help and feedback! I really appreciate it. Today will be day 5 when I take it. Omly real side effects so far is Insomnia and headache
