I agree with HB...
As long as we are not pleasing to the point of being fake, or at the risk of losing our own sense of self, then I don't see a harm in it.
It is part of our nature to like, and be liked by others...and if that means we are accomodating and helpful, then those are good things!
Like I mentioned though, finding the balance of taking care of ourselves as well is important...so learning when to say no is an important skill.:)
As far as social phobias go...
Positive mantras are a great tool that I use often when I am dealing with anxiety. When you are feeling insecure/fearful, repeating a reassuring mantra can build up courage.
My anxiety tends to be more health related...but my go-to mantra might still work well in a social situation.
When you are feeling not so confident say to yourself:
"I am okay, this is just anxiety making me feel this way."
Or something similar that brings you comfort...maybe.
"I have come a long way from where I was, and can speak with confidence."
Anxiety can rob us of a lot of things, but by continuing to fight using our coping skills, we can be in the business of taking it all back!!;p
