Clonazepam dose

I figured that I'd start another post for this question becasue it really has nothing to do with my other posts.

I've been taking clonazepam since 1988 daily.  For as long as I can remember my dose has been 1.5mg twice a day(morn and bedtime).

This is the only med that I take for this issue.

Is it possible that I've "outgrown" or have gotten imune to this dose and this is why my anxiety/panic has been a bit worse then usual?

Would this be considered a mild, merate or high dose?

Yes it is very possible for you to "outgrow" a dose of this and any medicine. Our bodies can become used to the dose and a dose increase may be needed.


As far as your your dose, 1.5 mg twice a day, I would consider a low dose. That 3 mg a day, and the max recommended dose 20 mg a day.

If I were you I'd get with you GP or P-doc and discus with them the next step. I wouldn't see any issues with bumping the dose up another 0.5mg and see how it goes. But that's for you and your MD to discuss.

Thanks for that info Chris.
I never knew that the max dose was as high as 20mg.
Back when I started taking it I was 21(don't do the math!!)and the Psych told me to be careful my booze intake(at 21 did I listen?) so that led me to think it was at least a moderate dose.
I'll have to talk to either my PCP or maybe another Psych? I haven't seen a Psych in about 20yrs because the meds were working.

When I said max dose I ment max daily dose. But yeah you are fine with what you take. I have people I take care if that take 3 mg 3 times a day.

I figured that 20mg was max daily.
So I guess that I am on a pretty low dose.
I always thought that clonazepam was a maintenance drug. I know someone who takes it on an "as needed" basis. I was never given that option.
I'd hate to "up the dose" but I'll talk to doc and see what he thinks. I've hated this crutch since the beginning!!!

I know I was given a prescription for klonopin 2mg to be used as needed. But when the have it to me at the ER to stop a panic attack, it knocked me out for 2 days. But yeah I only have ever use Ativan or Xanax as a PRN for my residents. I really hope you get things figured out. I know I'm hoping to lol.
