New "self" diagnosis - could use some encouragement

Well... I thought I was doing OK...

Today, I noticed some feeling of tightness on the side of my right eye. Now, I wear somewhat heavy eye makeup on a daily basis and often kinda scrub the eyeliner and mascara off at night. It feels like it's tight so I keep rubbing it, when I do it's a little sore - maybe like I scraped it but there is nothing there (except a red mark now from me rubbing at it).

Soo... Thanks to the handy-dandy internet... I have now diagnosed myself with... Scleroderma. A horrible disease which effects the skin, eventually destroy internal organs and for which there is no cure. G-R-E-A-T. shocked

Why not do what most people do? Wait two weeks and see if its still there, "and keep your hands off"

I know I can count on you for a more reasonable perspective. :)

My husband and I are going to Boston for the weekend to catch the Red Sox playoff game tomorrow, so after stewing about it for 20 minutes, I resolved to deal with it Monday if it is still there.

I am sure that this is going to clear up quickly on its own. You may need to not apply eye make-up for the time being...and in the future try an oil based make-up remover that is really mild and good at dissolving even stubborn eye liner and mascara. I can recommend Clinique's "Take the Day Off" make-up remover.:)

Good ol' vaseline will take it off and it's cheaper than makeup remover!
(I'm poor, but proud!...Not proud of BEING poor...just proud to be cheap!)

You are right JL!! Baby oil on a cotton ball as well;)

Nothing wrong with being frugal!! I do have my little splurges here and there however...and Clinique gives great give-aways...I always wait to buy when the have the freebies!;p

LOL! My 22 year-old niece is a representative for Clinique! She works at the Clinique cosmetic counter in Dillards! I'm really proud of her. She's been working at Dillards for several months in the jewelry/handbags department and when it came time to move her to the next "rung on the ladder", she was offered the Clinique position! This is considered the very TOP sales position in the entire store! She also had to be approved via the Clinique company, not just Dillards! :)
I can honestly say that I was NOT surprised as she is very gregarious, friendly, and stunningly beautiful! No, not just b/c she's my niece do I say that. She is a natural-born beauty. Her older sister is also! I wish I could've had daughters like them, but old maids don't have kids. Nieces was the next-best thing though! :)

LB, Good Afternoon.   I commend you on picking a disorder that few people are familiar with.  One of my first patients I had straight out of nursing school had   scleroderma and I learned a lot from this lady. One of the earliest signs of scleroderma is an exaggerated response to cold temperatures or emotional distress, which can cause numbness, pain or color changes in the fingers or toes. Called Raynaud's phenomenon, this condition also occurs in people who don't have scleroderma. I actually have Raynaud's as well as some permanent neuropathy from chemo - only to the bottom of my feet. I am guilty of not always cleansing my make-up off and during the night I may get mascara in my eye, which of course I rub my eye and wake up with irritation. I suspect you have irritated your eye with the rubbing. Thanks all. It's always coming back to my posts that I realize what a freakin' messed up bafoon I sound like.

Friday night I put some dry skin lotion on the spot and noticed the tight feeling went away. On Saturday I didn't think much of it and then last night I started feeling it again at the ball park.

I often use cold cream to take my makeup off (it makes my skin feel nice), but when I'm not in a rush I use St. Ives Apricot Scrub (which is like rubbing sand on your face).

Kitt, it's strange because I never really heard of Scleroderma before, but now that I know what it is - it's scary!! I notice at work my fingers are often cold even when the rest of my body is warm... I have to go to the ladies room and wash my hands with hot water. They don't turn blue - just cold. And with the recent discovery of my fingernail beds being white, I seem to wonder if I have some sort of circulation issue.

I think that cold hands and feet are pretty common in females. My mother, my sisters and I all have these issues...

...Fall means breaking out the wool socks and hand warmers!

Remember that those rare illnesses, are, well...rare! On top of that, they often share symptoms that are common to other benign issues.

Try not to let the anxiety take you for a ride.;)
