Good Morning, I am overwhelmed and so happy to see the many members supporting you.  I think it may be because when talking about children of any age, it brings out members who can identify with the difficulties that often present themselves to parents and their really wonderful children that are having a tough time. janetlee  left you a link re a great book, however, I was not able to get the link to work so I am going to post you a link to Amazon that carries the very same book as I think it is a truly good book.   Hope and Help for Your Nerves by Claire Weekes : http://www.amazon.com/ref=gno_prmlogo You can copy and paste the title of the book into Amazon's search program and you should find it easily.  Costs about $8.00 new and they do have used copies available to for less money. Just reporting in on the latest with our situation. This week has been here best week since all of this started happening. As of yesterday she has been on the medicine for 4 weeks. The last 2 days she has been able to go through 2 softball practices and 2 band practices without any problems. She has not had to sit down or take any time off during any of them. She has seemed way more like her old self, bouncing around the house and being goofy. Very good to see. We have a follow up visit with our doctor on Monday.

In the midst of all of this she got her first quarter report card and had all A's. Lot to be thankful for!

Thanks for all the thoughts and opportunities to vent. I really appreciate this place.

Well after such a good week, yesterday while sitting in a restaurant with some of her friends laughing andcgoofing off, she said that an attack just kind of hit her out of the blue. She did not feel light headed or anything but just all of a sudden she was in tears and having to calm her breathing.

Have our follow up visit with our doctor tomorrow afternoon.

Sometimes it is one step forward, one back...but she is going to make progress more and more, and the setbacks will be fewer and farther between.

Good to know that she is seeing her doctor tomorow. Keep us posted.

Anxiety attacks stink sooo bad!! The awesome thing for her though is that she got through it and now if another one comes on she will know more about how to fight through it and can look back and rely on the strength she had to fight this past one. Your daughter is awesome. I admire her strength. She isn't quitting softball and band even though she has panic attacks! You know how many adults shy away from activities due to fear and anxiety?! And then look at your daughter fighting right though the anxiety! Love it! What an inspiration!

Thank you for the kind words. I appreciate them and I am pretty proud of her, just wish we could get rid of these completely.

Her softball season came to a close on Saturday, she has a couple weeks off until basketball practice starts. She has not played basketball since these started, so I am pretty interested to see how she reacts at those practices and games.

Just got back from her check up with the doctor. Doctor thinks she is doing great and is happy they have cut back to about once a week and less intense. She feels like they will continue to get better over the next couple of weeks. She is starting her taking her meds at bed time to try to alleviate some nausea she has been having. I was also wrong on the dosage. She has been taking 12.5 mgs per day, not 25 mgs. If they have not subsided in a couple weeks she wants her to start taking 25 mgs per day. Other than that she thinks things are going well. She wants to see her back in 3 months and anticipates leaving her on the meds until the end of the school year. Then she will wean her off them and see how she does.

Well it really is two steps forward two steps back at times. We moved her medicine to night time, and the last 3 nights she has not been able to get to sleep. It has been 2 and 3am before she gets to sleep at night. She had an attack last night while watching her friends play in a volleyball game, and she had another one this morning at school. I think the sleeping issues are making the anxieties worse. I got a message into our doctor to see what she wants to do.

Frustrating.

Yes, lack of sleep can definitely contribute to anxiety.

Talk to her doctor and get advised. There are several natural forms of sleep aids, as well as medical help to consider.

My daughter has struggled with sleep, and found Binuaral Beats (sound wave therapy) to be helpful. It can be found as an app, or on youtube. The tones work on the brainwaves to naturally slow them down and bring them into a sleep state.

You could ask your doctor his/her opinion about this and see if it could help.;)

Heard back from doctor and she wants us to start giving her the medicine with supper and see if that helps.

Can changing the time of the medicine make the attacks worse?

Last week we switched to her taking her medicine at night and that kept her up at night. At the doctors suggestion we moved it back to supper and that still kept her up at night. And in the course of 3 days she had 4 attacks.

The last couple weeks before that while taking medicine in the morning she only had one attack per week.

We have now switched back to taking it in the mornings. She was able to get a much better nights sleep, and since switching back to mornings has not had any attacks.

This stuff is strange for sure.

IDK...but I would say keep going with what is working!

Maybe taking it in the mornings just gives her a better coverage for the most stressful/challenging parts of her day...although since this med is really kept at a pretty constant level in the system as opposed to a fast acting/short half life Rx (like a benzo) it may just be conincidence or placebo...but hey, go with it, right?

I hope she continues to do well.:)

Talked to doctor today and they want us to up her dosage from 12.5 to 25 mgs per day. We will start that in the morning.

She maybe is getting a little overwhelmed and may not know it. Please try to get her to journal and see a therapist to get her more tools to cope with this. I hope she feels better soon and I will pray for all of you.

Started her on 25mgs of medicine this morning. Does it take another 4 to 6 weeks to see if this is going to help or is it quicker since the medicine is already in her system?

There will still be a time of adjustment...but not anywhere near that of the start up...should be much quicker.

No attacks since she has went to 25mgs of meds. This afternoon starts her basketball practice. Interested to see how that goes.

Happy to report she made it through her practice without any big problems. After running 10 sprints in a row she had a little trouble catching her breath, but I think that had way more to do with being out of shape after 6 weeks of inactivity.
