Lexapro makes me feel like I drank a few pots of coffee!

Third day on Lexapro and it feels like I drank a crap load of coffee! Seems like everyday the anxiety is revving up more than it ever was on this med. Racing heart jittery heart palps no appetite it feels like Im on speed, feels like I need my Xanax every hour or two!(but def wont take it that much, would be dangerous!) I actually had to leave class early today because I couldn't sit still or stop shaking and my heart was palpitating. I do have more energy but at the same time Im emotionally drained and exhausted so its like Im tired too. I don't know! Just not comfortable. My best friend said it was a good medication for her and she misses it but doesn't have insurance to afford it now. Everyone is different but Im not sure what to do that's why I called my Dr. Maybe I should give it more time and this will all pass once my body is adjusted to it? Im sure my brain chemistry is going crazy right now like what are you doing to me!?! Im in the medical field, but Im not a Dr., so Im lost! So Im waiting on the call from him to see where to go from here! Just updating everyone who has been asking how it's going!

Same thing happened to me when I started it, my doc said impossible it takes several weeks for it to build up in your body. So we came to the conclusion it was just my usual anxiety attack. I was fine after a few weeks. I stopped taking it after 6 months and was fine for few years. Now I'm having problems again, hence why I just joined this forum.

My doctor told me same thing at my appt.back on Nov.8th.. said it would calm my nerves and Its a really good med for Anxiety. I don't see how if it does that! Still waiting to see what he says. Thanks for informing me!

Everyone of these medications works differently for each person. I was on this med for about one month and almost overnight "feeling of more energy" but it wore off within a few days. My Dr. upped the dose and it worked for a little while but soon quit working so I moved on.
Every time I have had to start a new med I just set aside 4-6 weeks of accepting that I am most likely going to feel nasty before the full benefit of the medication kicks in.

I also know that the medication is not going to cure anxiety, it is my job to learn how to manage my anxiety through changing my lifestyle, seeing a therapist and journaling.

Just as I thought, he said give it more time since its only been 3 days not enough time for it to build up and be causing me the anxiety. He said give it a couple weeks. Today was almost unbearable I hope tomorrow is a little, well actually a lot better, but only time will tell I guess!

I couldn't take the Lexapro, it made me so lightheaded. Dr switched me to Prozac, and I am doing much much better on it. I agree with everyone else though, give your body time to adjust to it. It stinks, but hopefully in the long run, it will help you out!

Lacey, I am feeling kind of the same way as you.

This morning, I'll be on my 4th day for Prozac. But, last night I went to bed around midnight, woke up at 4, 6, and 8 and now I'm up. I feel the way you do too. I feel very jittery and such. I'm thinking, How is this pill ALREADY affecting me??? I have been getting these dull headaches on one side of my head. Not bad enough for me to take tylenol but they're uncomfortable and annoying. I'm on 10mg of Prozac. I seen my counselor yesterday and she told me to give it a week and maybe if i'm still feeling bad they will put me on a diff. medicine...but, I'm confused as to why they would do that when it takes atleast a few weeks? *SIGH* I'm just going to try to stick it out as much as I can.

Today is my 4th day on Lexapro and I feel terrrrrrrible! Ive already had probably 15 panic attacks and its not even 1030a.m. yet. I haven't taken my xanax even though I really need to because I can't stop shaking and panicking and having Heart palps but I Really feel like I'm going to throw up. I am very very very nautious and sick to my stomach and super dizzy. I honestly don't think I will be moving forward with the lexapro after today. I will be calling my dr. again today when I'm done with class because this is toooooo much for me! My heart is actually racing Right now as i type this. Ahhhh. ),:

awww I'm so sorry to hear you feel so bad. That really sucks. Just try to stay calm (Ik, easier said than done) and try to do something to take your mind off of it. we're all here for you! I hope you get to feeling better hun.

I am sorry that you are feeling so awful. Call your doctor. He/she may be able to give you an idea of whether you should try to stick it out...or if these s/e's are just too much to take.

I wish you the best in getting the advice that you need.

Thanks, thought I was going to die all morning until about an hour after I took the Xanax.I asked My Dr.if I could just stop this today and go back on my Remeron tonight and he said yes. I felt so good like overnight for so long with the Remeron I started last March,then it stopped working after about 9 months.maybe because I upped the dosage then took it back down because the higher dosage had me anxious. I'm just afraid to try anything else at this point because on the Lexapro it's the worst anxiety I've ever had & that's what I was so afraid of! I guess its just not for me. Did anyone else stop an anti.dep.one day & start another the next? Maybe I should take a night off and give my body time to recooperate and start it tomorrow night. I feel the Xanax wearing off and I'm starting to feel the anxiety coming back. Hereeee we goooo again! I'd say this is hell!!!! Having a reallyyyyyy hard time dealing with this right now! )`: as I said before dr said take another xanax because the dosage is the lowest, but I'm afraid to take another (just another part of having anxiety and the awful fear of dying I guess!) I feel like just giving up because I've been trying so hard and for so long to get better and it seems to just keep getting worse the harder I try --- makes noo sense at all to me! I try and expect good progress and I'm always let down! Ughhhh. Thanks for listening and giving advice. I appreciate it.

I couldn't take the Lexapro either, I had the worst anxiety attack, though I must say I cut it in half and was not having any issues with it, but before I could go back to the whole dose, I switched back to Prozac, not sure I made the right decision, but don't want to turn back now because I seem to be doing good on the Prozac...And yes, I took Lexapro one day and Prozac the next day. Hope your Remeron works. Did you talk to your Dr about halving your Lexapro, I found it to be much better to gradually use it. Like I said, I'm still left with that what if it would have worked, but onward for me. turn

I'm only taking halves! That's why I'm so shocked its causing this much anxiety!! When my xanax wears off I'm a total WRECK! I can't believe this. Its sooo hard to function. N from so much anxiety my stomach is soo upset! I'm starting to feel the way I did all over again this morning and when it gets that bad nothing can calm me! Feels like my nerves are shot Im so upset this happened to me. Not to mention my head is killing me from it as well. It feels like I'm standing in zero degree weather that's how bad I'm shaking I'm scared I'm going to have a Seizure or stroke or heart attack shaking this badly. I don't know what to do its really depressing. )`:

What makes me even more upset is seeing all of these "normal" happy people all around me and all I think is WHY ME?

I know...but remember everyone has some issue(s) in their life to deal with.

Even seemingly "happy all the time, have it all together" people!

Count your blessings, even as things right now are hard...

Gratitude and finding the good in your life is an actualy antedote to anxiety and depression...it has been proven!

I know how hard it is to do, but staying as positive as possible...even if it just means writing down one thing a day (although more is good too) that you are thankful for can really make a difference in your recovery.
