Can't stop checking my pulse.:(

I used to do that all the time and then it sent me to the hospital panicked about dying because I gave myself hypertension. Best advice: just don't check your pulse. Easier said than don't but next time you want to take your pulse - just decide not to.

listening for it to quit!

Oh my goodness, I used to do that constantly!

My guess a good number of us here have done that, and more, in our bouts of anxiety.

I admit I still do it on occasion when my anxiety is particularly high. But for the most part I've given it up.

When I decided to just stop doing it, (after all, all it does in the long run is increase anxiety), I found my body slowly calming down.

One thing I did do was nap or sleep with a metronome going next to my bed. I would set it for 60bpm and meditate, using my mind (not my fingers on my pulse points) to try and relax and lower my heart rate. The sound of the metronome is very peaceful and comforting. It's still one of my favourite self-help devices.

Yes, it is a great idea!

My husband is a drummer, and he uses an electronic metronome. They can be found at music stores and are not expensive.

I just looked on Amazon and they have a large selection of metronomes, depending on what kind you're looking for, what quality, etc.

I saw them anywhere from around $13.00 to $50.00 (and more expensive if you're looking for something "brand name" or "fancy.")

But if you're looking for something, just to provide a consistent beat (and a beat you can adjust), they have some small electronic models that are pretty inexpensive. For your purposes, you're simply using a beat set lower so that you can concentrate on that instead of your pulse.

When in doubt,...scope out Amazon.
